ALi IDE device driver version 3.4 README This package installs an update to the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 95/98 device driver for the ALi(R) IDE hard disk controller that comes preinstalled in your IBM(R) Aptiva(R) computer. This update requires approximately 2 MB of space on your hard disk (drive C). This update package is intended for IBM Aptiva machine types 2137-xx, 2153-xx, and 2158-xx that come with a preinstalled ALi(R) IDE hard disk controller. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. INSTALLING THE UPDATE --------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page. 2. Select Start -> Find -> Files and folders. 3. Type al1z00us.exe in the search box. 4. Click Find Now. This will locate the al1z00us.exe file you just downloaded. 5. Double-click the icon for al1z00us.exe. The default folder setting should remain C:\DRIVES\AL1Z00US. 6. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the device driver. 7. Shut down and restart your computer so that the changes take effect. TESTING FOR SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION ----------------------------------- 1. Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel. 2. Double-click System. 3. Select the Device Manager tab. 4. Double-click on the Hard disk controllers tab. 5. Double-click on ALi Primary IDE controller (bus master) or ALi Bus Master PCI to IDE Controller, whichever is displayed on your system. 6. Select the Driver tab. 7. Click the Driver File Details button. Look for the entry C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS\M5229.MPD. The File version will tell you what version of the drivers you have. 8. The version should read 3.40. LIMITATIONS ----------- Warning do not attempt to install this update on a system with a hard drive using dynamic disk overlay technology such as On-Track Disk Manager.
