LG DVD-ROM drive firmware update 
version 1.27
README

This package performs a flash update of the firmware that controls
the LG DVD-ROM drive which might have come preinstalled in your IBM(R)
Aptiva(R) computer. A blank 1.44MB 3.5-inch diskette will be needed.

NOTE:  Firmware is programming that controls low-level hardware
operations internal to the DVD-ROM. The firmware is stored on a chip.
Your DVD-ROM uses flash ROM's, which can be updated through a program
on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the firmware
chip to update the firmware.

Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation.

This update package is intended for IBM Aptiva machine types
2178-xxx or 2198-xxx that came with a DVD-ROM drive manufactured by
Pioneer. To determine which DVD-ROM is installed in your computer,
do the following:


Determining which DVD-ROM drive is installed in your computer
------------------------------------------------------------
1. Right-click on the My Computer icon.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click on the Device Manager tab.
4. Click on the + sign to the left of the words "CD-ROM". If you see
   "LG", proceed to the next step to determine the firmware level
   that is on your drive. If you do not see "LG", quit this
   operation.
5. Click the LG DVD-ROM drive.
6. Click Properties.
7. Click on the Settings tab.
8. Verify that the firmware revision is lower than 1.27. If the
   firmware revision is lower than 1.27, IBM recommends that you
   install this firmware update.

Downloading the update
----------------------
1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the
   downloaded file.

Extracting the update
---------------------
1. Click Start, highlight Find, then click Files and folders.
2. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive.
3. Type pz2t05a.exe in the search box, then click Find Now. This will
   locate the pz2t05a.exe file you just downloaded.
4. Double-click the icon for pz2t05a.exe. The necessary files will be
   extracted to the diskette.
5. Close all open applications.
6. Leaving the diskette inserted in the diskette drive, Shutdown and
   restart your computer.
7. Follow the onscreen prompts to install the firmware update.
8. When complete, remove the diskette from the diskette drive, and
   restart the computer.

Testing for successful installation
-----------------------------------
1. Right-click on the My Computer icon.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click on the Device Manager tab.
4. Click on the + sign to the left of the words "CD-ROM". If you see
   "LG", proceed to the next step to determine the firmware level
   that is on your drive. If you do not see "LG", quit this
   operation.
5. Click the LG DVD-ROM drive.
6. Click Properties.
7. Click on the Settings tab.
8. Verify that the firmware revision is 1.27.


Issues resolved by this update
------------------------------
1. When certain DVD's are played back in the Lucky Goldstar DVD-ROM
   drive, they may intermittently "skip". This update will change
   the firmware level of the DVD drive to 1.27, and prevent the
   intermittent skip on certain DVD's.
