RVFLSH.EXE SYSTEMS SUPPORTED -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This diskette supports Aptiva 2163 systems, models 504, 534, 540 and 570. DESCRIPTION -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- When booted, this diskette updates the video BIOS on Aptiva 2163 systems. - This video BIOS update write protects the video BIOS. - Updating the video BIOS may help when the system is not displaying any video. This diskette also contains a file (ZXCHKDSP.EXE) which checks and sets the write protect status of the video BIOS. OBTAINING AND EXTRACTING THE UPDATE -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 1) Format a high density 3.5 inch diskette. Be sure the diskette is error-free. (No bad clusters.) 2) Download RVFLASH.EXE to your hard drive. 3) Run RVFLSH.EXE to extract the diskette. INSTALLATION -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Using ZXCHKDSP.EXE ZXCHKDSP.EXE is used to check the write protect status of the video BIOS. It is not necessary to use this program to update the video BIOS, it is simply an indicator to determine if it is necessary to update the video BIOS. If the video BIOS is NOT write protected, ZXCHKDSP.EXE will prompt you to write protect the video BIOS. If the video BIOS is write protected, the video BIOS update is not necessary. 1) Execute ZXCHKDSP.EXE from the diskette written by RVFLSH.EXE. 2) If you see "EPROM's Data is protected" you do not need to update the video BIOS. 3) If you see "EPROM's Data is not protected!!!", please choose 'yes' when you are prompted to enable software data protection. Updating the Video BIOS 1) Start with the system to be updated off. 2) Insert the diskette which was created by RVFLASH.EXE. 3) Turn the system on. 4) The diskette will boot the system and automatically apply the video BIOS update. When the video BIOS is successfully updated, you will hear one beep. If the video BIOS update is unsuccessful there you will hear three beeps. 5) After you hear the single beep, remove the diskette and turn the system off. The update is complete. 6) If the video BIOS update was not successful, extract RVFLSH.EXE to another, different diskette and attempt the update again. This Agreement also covers any future versions of Programs that IBM may make available. You obtain no rights other than those granted to you under this Agreement. When you do so, your license is terminated and you must destroy all your remaining copies of the Program. YOU MUST REPRODUCE THE COPYRIGHT NOTICE(S) AND ANY LEGENDS ON EACH COPY OF A PROGRAM. You may NOT: 1) use, modify, adapt, copy, merge, display, execute, distribute or transfer the Programs, except as authorized by this license; 2) reverse assemble, reverse compile, decode, or otherwise translate the Programs except as specifically permitted by law without the possibility of contractual waiver; or 3) sublicense, rent, lease, or assign the Programs. LIMITED WARRANTY IBM warrants the Programs solely in accordance with the Statement of Limited Warranty for Machines that accompanied your System, which is hereby incorporated by reference. GENERAL You may terminate your license at any time. IBM may terminate your license if you fail to comply with the terms of this Agreement. In either event, you must destroy or disable all your copies of the Programs. You are responsible for the payment of any taxes, including personal property taxes, resulting from this Agreement. You agree to comply with all applicable export laws and regulations. Neither party may bring an action under this Agreement more than two years after the cause of action arose. This license is governed by the laws of the country in which you acquired the Programs except that: 1) if you acquired the Programs in the United States, this license is governed by the laws of the State of New York; and 2) if you acquired the Programs in Canada, this license is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario.
