W95UPFIX.EXE Use on: Aptiva 21xx-Mxx systems preloaded with OS/2 and DOS/Windows 3.1 that have had Windows 95 added using the IBM Upgrade Kit. Contents of diskette: The files on this diskette will perform the following tasks: 1) Add missing icons to Device Manager that were not added during an upgrade to Windows 95. The icons added in Device manager will be: Modem MWAVEDSP Network Adapters Sound Video and Game Controllers. 2) Update Online HouseCall shortcuts to assure proper operation. 3) Update Online Services to assure proper operation. When this update is complete the user will have all the necessary devices loaded into their Device Manager. This update is intended for distribution to IBM customers who have upgraded their Aptiva 21XX-MXX Systems from the Windows 3.11 / Warp operating system to Windows 95 using the IBM Windows 95 Upgrade Kit. This update contains the following files. HWDETECT.EXE DEVINST.INI UPDATE.BAT SUPPORT.INI ONLINE.INI readme.txt (This file) Installation: 1) Place Microsoft Windows 95 Upgrade CD in the CD Rom Drive. (Do NOT use the Aptiva Software CD). 2) Insert the diskette in drive A: 3) With left mouse button click on "START" button on lower left taskbar. 4) Click on "RUN" 5) In the Run Box type the following command; a:\upgrade 6) The system will take several minutes to complete this command. 7) During the install process, a dialog box will come up and ask for Workgroup names for your system. This is for users who may want to use the Microsoft's Network's dial up adapter. NOTE: If you are not using the DialUp Networking function, you must enter information here to continue. You may enter what ever name or information you wish. 8) Click "OK" 9) When the update process is complete, the computer must be restarted. 10) From Task bar, click on "Start" 11) Select "Shutdown" 12) Select "Restart Your Computer" 13) Select "YES" 14) On the restart your computer will bring up a dialog box asking for a username and password. Enter your name in the 'User name' blank space. 15) Enter the password you wish to use. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SET A PASSWORD, SIMPLY LEAVE THIS ENTRY BLANK. 16) Click on OK. Then, if you set a password; re-enter the password and hit OK again. If you did not set a password, just press OK again. If you are a rightful possessor of a System, or if you have obtained Programs for the purpose of maintaining a System, IBM grants you a nonexclusive license to use the Programs as part of or in conjunction with the System, or to restore and maintain the Programs. This Agreement also covers any future versions of Programs that IBM may make available. You obtain no rights other than those granted to you under this Agreement. When you do so, your license is terminated and you must destroy all your remaining copies of the Program. YOU MUST REPRODUCE THE COPYRIGHT NOTICE(S) AND ANY LEGENDS ON EACH COPY OF A PROGRAM. You may NOT: 1) use, modify, adapt, copy, merge, display, execute, distribute or transfer the Programs, except as authorized by this license; 2) reverse assemble, reverse compile, decode, or otherwise translate the Programs except as specifically permitted by law without the possibility of contractual waiver; or 3) sublicense, rent, lease, or assign the Programs. LIMITED WARRANTY IBM warrants the Programs solely in accordance with the Statement of Limited Warranty for Machines that accompanied your System, which is hereby incorporated by reference. GENERAL You may terminate your license at any time. IBM may terminate your license if you fail to comply with the terms of this Agreement. In either event, you must destroy or disable all your copies of the Programs. You are responsible for the payment of any taxes, including personal property taxes, resulting from this Agreement. You agree to comply with all applicable export laws and regulations. Neither party may bring an action under this Agreement more than two years after the cause of action arose. This license is governed by the laws of the country in which you acquired the Programs except that: 1) if you acquired the Programs in the United States, this license is governed by the laws of the State of New York; and 2) if you acquired the Programs in Canada, this license is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario.
