Flash BIOS update - bootable diskette version for IBM(R) IntelliStation(R) E Pro 6204 and 6214 systems for IBM(R) NetVista(R) 2273, 2292, 6043, 6343, 6349, 6350, 6790, 6791, 6792,6793, 6794, 6795, 6823, and 6825 systems version 20KT29A README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on IBM IntelliStation(R) E Pro 6204 and 6214 systems and IBM NetVista(R) 2273, 2292, 6043, 6343, 6349, 6350, 6790, 6791, 6792, 6793, 6794, 6795, 6823, and 6825 systems. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- Installing this update involves creating a BIOS flash diskette and running the flash program from the diskette. Before you begin, have a blank 1.44 MB diskette ready. 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and Folders. 2. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive. 3. Type pz1t11a.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the pz1t11a.exe file you just downloaded. 4. Double-click the pz1t11a.exe icon. 5. Follow the onscreen prompts. The necessary files will be extracted to the diskette. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Leave the diskette in the A: drive, and shut down and restart the computer to start the BIOS flash program. 3. When you are prompted to select a country, press the number on your keyboard which corresponds to the country in which you are using the computer. For example, press 1 for the United States. 4. Press Enter. You will be asked if you wish to update the serial number of your machine. 5. Press N. You will be asked if you wish to update the machine type/model number of your machine. 6. Press N. The Phoenix Phlash16 utility will appear onscreen. 7. Wait until you see a message stating -------------Phoenix Phlash16 Status------------- | | | Flash memory has been successfully programmed | | | | PRESS KEY TO RESTART THE SYSTEM | | If the system does not restart | | TURN THE POWER OFF, THEN ON | | | ------------------------------------------------- 8. Remove the diskette from the diskette drive. 9. Press Enter. Flash Changes ------------- General Information: 20JTxxA is the flash diskette level. 20KTxxA is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward. That is, if a change is added in 01, it is also in 02, 03 etc. CHANGES for 20KTxxA/20JTxxA: 20KT18A/20JT18A - Initial Release 20KT19A/20JT19A - Speed-up time to resume from S3 20KT20A/20JT20A - Correct stuck key detect not working consistently - Correct Wake On Events not booting to correct devices - Don't beep if ECC/non-ECC memory are mixed 20KT21A/20JT21A - Expose the partition table of zip diskettes - Set ICH2 COPROC_ERR_EN bit - Disable USB PCI devices if Disabled in Setup - Fix problem of fans running at full speed after S3 resume 20KT22A/20JT22A - Print PreBoot Notification Text (if any) before booting. - Fix APM Bios mode by changing the Setup questions. - Fix 101 Keyboard "Problem Device" when no PS/2 devices present. - Implements Customer Data Area, 500 byte string to DMI 131 structure. 20KT23A/20JT23A - Add code to report DMI System Enclosure based on Model. - This bios will operate hard drives in UDMA 5 mode under W2K and XP. - Remove the DEVICE_DISABLED multiboot option. - Fix CD boot problem - were rejecting Data CDs that had the Copy Permitted bit turned on. NOTE: When 20KT21A or earlier is flashed over 20KT23A or later, the DMI Type 3 "Asset Tag" string will be lost, because in the earlier bios there is no place to store it. 20KT24A/20JT24A - Fix zip drive under W98 - send partition table command to drive with argument always set to "Expose" 20KT25A/20JT25A - Use a lower fan speed in Quiet mode - Reduce fan speed during POST instead of later - Removed PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse as a Low Power Entry Monitor in Setup - Correct German translation problem - Update Intel PXE code to 4.0.22 20KT26A/20JT26A - System goes into low power mode after 4 hours with power management disabled - POV Diagnostic test failing once a minute when you loop the test - Correct problem with some 16 bit PCMCIA cards attached with PCMCIA/1394 combo card 20KT27A/20JT27A - Restore fan speed on S3 resume to appropriate speed - Added type 13 SMBIOS structure - Added code to opy RFID Asset info to DMI3 Asset string 20KT28A/20JT28A - Boots to hard drive when hard drive is not in boot sequence - Legacy devices still claiming system rescources when Legacy-free is enabled - System does not wake from PS/2 mouse (Win 2000 and XP) - Audio shows wrong status in setup system summary screen - Corrected DMI processor information 20KT29A/20JT29A - Correct problem with PS2 keyboards not working properly when connected through some older model keyboard switches. Note - this fix is only active if the "POST" option in b BIOS Setup is set to "Enhanced" - Fix problem with system booting slowly if you have Windows 2000 operating system and set the "Plug and Play OS" option in BIOS Setup is set to "Yes" - Update Flash under operating system software - Fix problem with system going into low power mode under Linux even if all of the APM timers have been disabled - Require Aministrator password to be entered (if one has been set) before you can change date and time in BIOS setup.
