SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ************************************************************ The systems requirements are as follows: 1. The system must contain one of the following Intel chipsets: Intel(R) 810 Chipset GMCH A-2 2. It is recommended that the kit software is installed on systems with at least 64MB of system memory. 3. It is recommended that there is sufficient hard disk space in the directory (typically C:\TEMP) on the system to install this software. The Windows 2000 INF files included with this distribution package are designed to function with the following versions of Windows 2000: Microsoft *Windows 2000 5.00.1963 Please check with your system provider to determine which operating system and Intel chipset are used in your system. ************************************************************ * 2. Localized Language Abbreviations ************************************************************ The following list is the abbreviations of all languages that the driver has been localized in. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE ************************************************************ General Installation Notes: 1. The operating system must be installed on the system prior to installation. 2. This installation procedure is specific only to the version of driver and installation file included in this release. 3. This procedure assumes that all of the software associated with this release is located in the same directory. You can choose three different methods of installation for this release. The file you need to download for each are indicated in the appropriate section. 1) Manual Install from hard drive See section 1.1 2) Manual Install from CD-ROM See section 1.1 3) Manual Install from floppy disk See section 1.2 1.1 MANUAL INSTALL FROM CD-ROM OR HARD DRIVE 1. Download Driver.ZIP file. Double-click to unzip (you must have zip program installed. Hit the "Extract" button and indicate which directory you wish to extract the files to. Hit the "Extract" button to unzip the files to that directory. If you wish to install from the CD-ROM, then the files will need to be transferred to a CD. 2. Select "My Computer" icon. 3. Select "Control Panel" icon. 4. Select "System" icon. 5. You should be in the "System Properties" window. 6. Click on the "Hardware" tab. 7. Click the "Device Manager" button. 8. Click the "Display Adapters" selection. 9. The current list of adapters is displayed. 10. Click on the adapter (ex. VGA) that the Intel Win2K driver is replacing. 11. Click on the "Driver" tab. 12. Click the "Update Driver..." button. 13. The "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" window should now open. 14. Click the "Next" button. 15. Select the option to "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver". 16. Click the "Have Disk" button. 17. Click on "Browse" and go to the directory where the files were unzipped. Go to the Win2K directory. If the english version of the driver is to be installed, select the "i81xnt5.INF" file and press ok. If another language is desired, select the INF folder and select the INF file of the desired language. 18. Follow remaining prompts as instructed. Close all windows and reboot in order to use the new driver. See "Verifying the Installation of the Software" below to confirm the proper driver is being used. 1.2 MANUAL INSTALL FROM FLOPPY DISK 1. Floppy disk install is broken down by language, so you need to download the correct file from the web for the driver language needed. File names are of the form WIN2Kxxx where xxx is the three letter abbreviation of the language desired (see language abbreviation section 2). 2. Once you have downloaded the correct file from the web, double-click to unzip (you must have Winzip installed, download from www.winzip.com). Hit the "Extract" button and indicate which directory you wish to extract the files to. Hit the "Extract" button to unzip the files to that directory. 3. Once unzipped you will have multiple subdirectories, labeled accordingly. Copy the contents of these directories to their corresponding floppy disks. 4. Select "My Computer" icon. 5. Select "Control Panel" icon. 6. Select "System" icon. 7. You should be in the "System Properties" window. 8. Click on the "Hardware" tab. 9. Click the "Device Manager" button. 10. Click the "Display Adapters" selection. 11. The current list of adapters is displayed. 12. Click on the adapter (ex. VGA) that the Intel Win2K driver is replacing. 13. Click on the "Driver" tab. 14. Click the "Update Driver..." button. 15. The "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" window should now open. 16. Click the "Next" button. 17. Select the option to "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver". 18. Click the "Have Disk" button. 19. Insert Disk 1 into the floppy drive. 20. In the "Copy manufacture's files from:" box, specify the floppy drive (A: or B:) that Disk 1 is in. 21. Click the "OK" button. 22. In the "Models:" box, highlight 'Intel Corporation 810 Graphics Controller Hub. 23. Click the "Next" button. 24. A window appears with "The wizard is ready to install the driver for the following hardware device:" message. 25. Click the "Next" button. 26. A window may appear with "Do you want to continue the installation" message. 27. Click the "Yes" button. 28. The files are copied to the hard disk. Insert the driver floppies when requested, clicking "OK" when ready. 29. After the file transfers are completed, follow the remaining prompts. Close all windows and reboot in order to use the new driver. 30. See "Verifying the Installation of the Software" below to confirm the proper driver is being used. ************************************************************ * 4. Verifying the Installation of the Software ************************************************************ 1. From the Microsoft Windows* 2000 desktop, click on "My Computer", then "Control Panel", and then, finally, "System". 2. You should be in the "System Properties" window. Click on the "Hardware" tab and hit the "Device Manager" button. From here, go down to "Display Adapter" and click. 3. The installed display adapter should be 'Intel Corporation 810 Graphics Controller Hub. ************************************************************ * 5. IDENTIFYING THE SOFTWARE VERSION NUMBER ************************************************************ 1. Select "My Computer" icon, "Control Panel" icon, and then the "Display" icon. 2. You should now be in the "Display Properties" window. Select the "Settings" tab. Then click the "Advanced" button. 3. Click on Version Tab and check for the proper version number. If the improper version number is displayed, then the proper driver is not being used and the installation process may need to be repeated. ************************************************************ * 6. UNINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE ************************************************************ NOTE: This procedure assumes the above installation process was successful. This uninstallation procedure is specific only to the version of the driver and installation file included in this package. 1. From the Microsoft *Windows 98 desktop, click on "My Computer", then "Control Panel", and then, finally, "Display". 2. You should be in the "Display Properties" window. Click on the "Settings" tab, then click on the "Advanced" button. 3. Select the "Adapter" tab. The driver information should then appear. Click on the "Properties" button. Select the "driver" tab and select the "uninstall" button. 4. You should now be in the "Confirm Device Removal" window. Click the "OK" button. 5. At this point the display properties window hangs. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to open the task manager and select "log Off". You can either select shutdown or restart. Claims arising under this Agreement shall be governed by the laws of California, excluding its principles of conflict of laws and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the Sale of Goods. You may not export the Software in violation of applicable export laws and regulations. Intel is not obligated under any other agreements unless they are in writing and signed by an authorized representative of Intel. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS. The Software is provided with "RESTRICTED RIGHTS." Use, duplication, or disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in FAR52.227-14 and DFAR252.227-7013 et seq. or its successor. Use of the Software by the Government constitutes acknowledgement of Intel's proprietary rights therein.
