It also contains other display related procedures. Unless otherwise noted "Windows" refers to Windows 2000. The following topics are included in the file: 1.0 Installing the Display Driver 2.0 Unattended driver installation 3.0 Trademarks 1.0 Installing the Display Driver ------------------------------------ Plug and Play installation: ------------------------------------ After installing the Savage4 based board, Windows 2000 should detect the Savage4 as a new display device, and will prompt for the display driver location. When prompted for the location of the display driver files. Browse to the location on the hard drive. If prompted, select the S3SAVG4.INF file and continue through the driver installation status screens. ----------------------------------------------------- Manually installing the display driver: ----------------------------------------------------- 1. Start Windows in VGA mode. If you need to switch to VGA mode, use the following instructions; otherwise, continue with Step 2. To switch to VGA mode (Windows 2000) a. Click START b. Select SETTINGS c. Select CONTROL PANEL d. Double-Click on the DISPLAY icon with the left-mouse button e. Click on the SETTINGS tab. f. Click on the ADVANCED button. g. Under the ADAPTER tab, click on the PROPERTIES button. h. Under the DRIVER Tab click on UPDATE DRIVER Click on NEXT, and Select "Display a list of all the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver." i. Click NEXT, and Select " Show All Hardware of this device class." j. On the Manufacturer's side scroll to Standard Display Adapters and on the Models side select Standard Display VGA. k. Click on NEXT, and If you get a box asking you if you would like to install this driver select Yes. l. Click on NEXT and Click on Yes you would like to continue the installation. m. Click on FINISH and click on CLOSE and Click YES to restart Windows 2000. 2. Click on the START button, select SETTINGS, and then click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon. The Display Properties window appears. 4. Click on the SETTINGS tab. 5. Click on the ADVANCED button. 6. Click on the Adapter Tab and then click on PROPERTIES 7. Click on the Driver Tab and then on UPDATE DRIVER. 8. Click NEXT and select "Display a list of all the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver." 9. Click "Have Disk" and browse to the location of the driver files. 10. Select the S3 Savage4 based adapter installed in your computer from the list. 11. Click on NEXT, If you get a box asking you if you would like to install this driver select YES. 12. Click on next, Click on Yes you would like continue the installation. 13. Click on Finish, Click on Close, and Click on Yes to restart Windows 2000 ------------------------------------------------ 2.0 Unattended driver installation: ------------------------------------------------ To install the display driver without user intervention: You must have Administrator rights for the automatic install to function properly. 1. Copy all the files from the driver distribution to a working directory on your hard disk or network. 2. Edit the S3INST.DAT file to contain the appropriate values for the DriverPath, XRES, YRES, BPP, and other installation parameters. Example: DriverPath=c:\drivers 3. Run S3INST.EXE Note: The auto-installer cannot detect hardware.
