1. Installation For Windows 98 by INF File When a Windows 9x PC boots for the first time after the modem PCI adapter card is installed, you will be prompted to locate the disk and directory containing the installation kit. If the operating system determines that the installation kit matches the Plug and Play ID of the hardware, you can finish the installation by selecting the Finish button. Windows continues with automated Plug and Play installation and several informative screens are displayed with the status of the component installation. On some service releases of Windows 95, the path to the driver files is requested once again, even though the user has specified this once already. After the installation is complete, the country of operation of the modem must be specified. If this is not specified in the INF file, the modem driver will select the Windows country as specified in the Control Panel Regional Settings applet. In either case the modem driver requires a country of operation before the modem can be used. The user may run the Control Panel Country Selection applet at a later time to change this country. The modem installation is complete. If the installation provides support for DOS applications, the system must be re-booted before this support will be enabled. This installation conforms to Microsoft WHQL requirements for unattended installation, so no message will be displayed to advise the user of this need to re-install before using DOS applications. 2. Installation For Windows 98 with Setup When the system is booted after installing the modem board for the first time, you will be prompted to install drivers for the new hardware just detected. To perform the software installation, select cancel, and then double-click on the SETUP program to install the modem. To un-install the modem, use the Add/Remove Software control panel application to select the modem for removal. After uninstall all traces of the modem will be removed. Note: to perform a silent installation using the Setup program, enter "Setup -s". 3. Installation for Windows NT 4.0 The SETUP.EXE approach allows you to load the driver for a Conexant board or a Rockwell board. Copy the NT release kit files to a directory on your system, and start SETUP.EXE with a double click or by highlighting the file and pressing the ENTER key. You should see a welcome screen. Click on the NEXT button; you should see the modem in the display window. Click on the NEXT button to install the driver. If the installer tells you the modem driver is already running, you may un-install it using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet. Select the modem, press the Add/Remove button and you will see the Modem Un-Installer Wizard. Press the Next button at the first screen and the Finish button at the second. You can now re-start the SETUP program. While the SETUP program installs the driver, you should see a few copy operations and hear a small flurry of disk activity, followed by the next screen, which says, "the following drivers were installed successfully." The driver is now installed and running. Note: The information in the following section describes command line parameters that have been provided for the convenience of the OEM installation team. The end user should be encouraged to run the Setup program with no command line parameters. Additional Notes for Silent Installation: The Setup program will accept the command line parameters in the following list -S[ilent] (install the drivers automatically, asking for user input via the CSA applet if the INF file does not specify a valid country) -H[omeCountry]=AB (no embedded spaces -- AB is a country code) Note 1: HomeCountry=AB disables running the CSA applet Note 2: HomeCountry=AB for an AB not in the following list defaults to the local country Note 3: HomeCountry=AB forces -Silent Note 4: Use due care to select a country from the INF file. The Setup program will accept any country in the list, even if the is no entry for that country in the INF file. Selecting a country not in the INF file means the modem will not work properly until the user selects a country with the csa applet. To perform a silent installation when the INF file defines a current country, specify SETUP -s. The Setup program will install and start the driver with no user input. To perform a silent installation when there is no current country in the INF file, specify SETUP -h=AB, where AB is a two letter code from the following list, a subset of ISA 3166. If you specify an AB not in the list, the Setup program will supply the local country as specified by the Regional Settings control panel applet. Installation for Windows 2000 When the Conexant modem is inserted into a PCI slot of a PC running Windows 2000, upon bootup the inbuild drivers will automatically be installed. This will occur without user intervention. To install the desired version of drivers, a driver update must be performed. To do this follow these instructions: A)Go to "Control Panel", double click "System". B)Select the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Device Manager" button. C)Click on the "+" next to "Modem", then double click on the Rockwell modem. D)Select the "Driver" tab, then click the "Update Driver" button. E)Click the "Next" button, then click "Search for Suitable drivers" and press "next". F)Select "Specify a Location", then click "next". G)Press the "Browse" button, then browse for the driver directory (please make note of this location as it is needed in step I) , then click the "Open" button. H)A screen will appear that states that several applicable drivers were found. Click the checkbox that says "Install one of the other drivers." Then press the "Next" button. I)A list of applicable drivers will appear that shows the location of the drivers. Highlight the driver whose path matches the path noted in step G. Then click "Next". J)At this point, the new drivers will be copied to the appropriate locations, click Next or Finish when prompted.
