This procedure will ERASE your current version of FAXWORKS and enable you to reload FAXWORKS version 3.00g.167. Do not use this version of FaxWorks on any ThinkPad that has a DSP Modem. EQUIPMENT REQUIRED ------------------ 1. DC power supply. 2. Floppy diskette drive and cable. 3. Reload diskette (FWG167.EXE) provided by IBM PC Company. 4. This version of FaxWorks is not to be used on any system that has and MWAVE/ DSP Modem. 5. This version of FaxWorks can be applied to Windows 3.11 and Windows95. RELOAD INSTRUCTIONS ------------------- 1. If you are using FaxWorks v 3.00f. then Power on your ThinkPad and select Uninstall FaxWorks from the Faxworks Group. or If you are using FaxWorks v 3.00g.167 then you will not have an Uninstall FaxWorks option in your FaxWorks group. 2. Go to your Printer Group in Control Pannel and Remove the FaxWorks Printer. 3. Reboot your IBM ThinkPad (not 701, 760 or 755 MWAVE) and exit Windows to a DOS prompt If you are using Windows95 then Boot to MS-DOS Mode 4. Insert diskette FWG167.EXE in to drive A 5. From the A:>, type in go.bat and press enter. Note: Type in a 'Y', when "Delete directory c:\faxworks and all its subdirectories?(Y/N) 6. Restart the computer(CTRL-ALT-DEL). Note: Press Enter to answer yes if a Group File Error occurs. The message will read: Cannot open program-group file 'C:\WINDOWS\FAXWORKS.GRP'. Do you want Program Manager to try to load it in the future. 7. Documentation version NuOem3.09 Getting Started ----------- Installing FaxWorks gives you the opportunity to register this software, define your preferences, and configure FaxWorks so that it works properly with your fax modem. Install and setup your fax modem before you install FaxWorks. Refer to the modem user's guide for information about installing the fax modem. Use the FaxWorks Setup program to decompress and install the FaxWorks files on your computer's hard drive. 1. Insert the FaxWorks program disk into the floppy drive and select the Run menu item. Type A:SETUP and click on OK. Note: A is the letter of the floppy drive that you inserted the program disk in. Use the appropriate letter for your computer. 2. Type the path of where you want to place the FaxWorks files or use the default path, C:\FAXWORKS. Choose the OK or CONTINUE button to start the installation process. FaxWorks copies and decompresses the files to your hard drive. 3. The Question dialog box appears if the SHARE.EXE is not already in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Choose.. Yes To... allow FaxWorks to add the SHARE.EXE to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. SHARE.EXE will prevent possible Btrieve errors while running FaxWorks. Choose.. No To... prevent FaxWorks from modifying your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 4. The first time you start FaxWorks, FaxWorks performs a diagnostics on your modem. Or if you need to change modems you can start the Modem Diagnostics yourself from the FaxWorks group in Windows. The modem diagnostic program checks, and configures FaxWorks to work properly with your modem. Note: As the diagnostic program checks your phone line, you will hear a dial tone coming through your fax modem. Do not be alarmed if you hear the dial tone for an extended period of time. When the line test is done, the modem diagnostic program will automatically reset the phone line. FaxWorks displays the following window while identifying your modem. If.. the Modem Diagnostics program was unable to detect a modem on your computer Then... the FaxWorks Registration warning box appears. Proceed to step 5. If.. the fax modem diagnostic program was successful Then... the FaxWorks Registration dialog box appears. Please proceed to step 6 to continue. 5. The FaxWorks Registration warning message dialog box appears. Check the following, then choose the Retry button. Verify that your modem is properly installed and running. Close any application that might use the same COM port as your modem. Verify that your fax line has a dial tone. If.. the same FaxWorks Registration warning dialog box appears Then... choose the Continue button and please proceed to step 8. Note: You will not be able to send or receive faxes until you successfully run the FaxWorks Modem Diagnostics program. If.. the modem diagnostics was successful Then... the FaxWorks Registration dialog box appears. Please proceed to step 6 to continue. 6. When the modem diagnostics are done, The FaxWorks Registration dialog box appears. Click on the Register Now button to continue. If.. you are unable or choose not to register electronically. Then... complete and mail in the registration card that is in the FaxWorks box. Proceed to step 8. If.. the registration is successful Then... proceed to step 7. 7. Decide whether you want FaxWorks to be the default printer. Note: If you did not remove your old version of the FaxWorks printer then will not see this option. See Printer Tips at the end of this document. Select... Yes If... you send a lot of faxes. By selecting this option, all applications with a print command will automatically have FaxWorks set as the current printer. Select... No If... you will use your printer more often than sending faxes. You can change to the FaxWorks 3.0 printer driver at any time by using the Print Setup command in your Windows application. 8. The FaxWorks - Banner Sheet dialog box appears. Define your Banner. A banner is information, such as your name, fax number, company, time and date that is printed at the top of each fax page. Note: The Current Federal Communications Commission regulation part 68, Section 68.318 c (3) states that it is illegal to transmit a fax in the United States which does not contain the following sender information: "...in a margin on the top or bottom of each transmitted page or on the first page of the transmission, the date and time it is sent and an identification of the business, other entity, or individual sending the message and the telephone number of the sending machine of such business, other entity or individual." When done, choose the Continue button. 9. The FaxWorks - Phone Line dialog box appears. Select the type of phone line, Tone or Pulse, that your phone system uses. Touch tone lines are commonly associated with push button phones while pulse lines are usually used with rotary phones. When done, choose the Continue button. 10. The FaxWorks - Station ID dialog box appears. Type in the Station ID field your fax number or name. When you send a fax, FaxWorks will broadcast the Station ID to the receiving device. When done, choose the Continue button. 11. The FaxWorks - Current Area Code dialog box appears. Enter your area code in the Current Area Code field. FaxWorks automatically determines if the fax number you are dialing is a local or long distance call based on the area code you provide in this field. When done, choose the Continue button. 12. The FaxWorks - Local Dial Prefix dialog box appears. The phone system in your office might require a prefix number to get an outside line. Note: Leave this field blank if you do not need a dial prefix to access an outside line. When done, choose the Continue button. 13. The FaxWorks - Long Distance Prefix dialog box appears. The phone system in your office might require a prefix number or numbers to make a long distance call. When done, choose the Continue button. 14. The FaxWorks - International Prefix dialog box appears. The phone system in your office might require a prefix number to get an outside line before dialing the international access number. When done, choose the Continue button. 15. The FaxWorks - Country Code dialog box appears. Enter your country code in the Current Country Code field. FaxWorks automatically determines if the fax number you are dialing is an international call based on the country code you provide in this field. When done, choose the Continue button. 16. Congratulations, you have successfully installed FaxWorks. Remove the program disk from the floppy drive and store the FaxWorks diskettes in a safe place. 17. Restart your computer. 18. Open the Faxworks Online Documentation located in the Faxworks Group for more detailed instructions on setting up your Faxworks environment. Print Problems Tip: If you did not remove the FAXWORKS Printer Driver before you installed this version then you will have to go into the printers group and rename the FaxWorks Printer and then Run Faxworks Diagnostics.
