New firmware upgrade provides solution for intermittent communication difficulties. This readme file explains how to install the upgrade for the IBM 56K Data-Fax Modem. 1. First make sure the modem is installed, and working correctly. If it is not please consult your IBM 56K Data-Fax Modem Installation Guide. 2. Go to a MSDOS or DOS prompt. 3. Go to the directory that contains this readme file. 4. Type dir at the prompt to display the files in the directory. Example: C:\(appropriate directory name)\dir (C:\ is used to represent the letter of the hard drive containing the directory.) This directory should contain a readme.txt, pfwin.exe, pfwin.hlp, tbO1v.upg, tbO1v.upf, and tbO1v.upp file. These files are needed to install the upgrade. 5. Type pfwin.exe at the prompt to begin the upgrade installation. Example: C:\(appropriate directory name)\pfwin.exe 6. A screen titled Flash Upgrade will appear on the screen, press continue to allow the program to AUTODETECT your modem. 7. After the upgrade finds the modem and searches for the UPG files, the Select Upgrade screen will appear. In the middle of the screen there should be a box titled Card Files. In the box the file TBO1V.UPG should be printed. If this is the case, click on the continue box at the bottom of the screen. 8. The next screen will be titled Confirm Upgrade. Simply click on the upgrade box. 9. The next message should say Upgrade Successful. After this message appears, reboot the system. 10. The modem upgrade is complete once the system is finished rebooting. 12/17/97
