Dear (W)EPRM - USER ! First. Please excuse all recent changes. Unfortunately, it became necessary, because in the meantime the books where growing rapidly. Before start, you have only the complete EPRM or WEPRM package if you have received all of the EPR*.INF or WEPR*.INF files (current 19-files), or you have all PKZIP EPRMINFx.EXE or WEPRINFx.EXE files (current 10-files). (The package-files are only used for (W)EPRM-transportation, the package content may be changed w/o notification!) All files starting with 'W' are for Windows usage and cannot be mixed (different programs) with EPRM-files, the OS/2 files. Sample for what an OS/2 PKZIP-package (13-files) may contain: EPRMINF.EXE --- EPRM.INF, EPRM5.INF, EPRM.ICO, EPRMINST.CMD EPRMNEW.DOC and README.TXT (you are currently reading, should be the minimum EPRM you have installed). (please see below in CONCEPT, what's real inside the *.INF-files) EPRMINF1.EXE --- EPRM2.INF EPRMINF2.EXE --- EPR2A.INF EPRMINF3.EXE --- EPR2B.INF EPRMINF4.EXE --- EPRM1.INF, EPRM3.INF, EPRM4.INF EPRMINF5.EXE --- EPRM0.INF EPRMINF6.EXE --- EPR2C.INF EPRMINF7.EXE --- EPR2D.INF, EPRMINF8.EXE --- EPRMA.INF, EPR2E.INF EPRMINF9.EXE --- EPR3A.INF EPRMINFA.EXE --- EPR3B.INF EPRMINFB.EXE --- EPRMX.INF EPRMINFX.EXE --- EPRADF0.INF, EPRADF1.INF, EPRMW.INF, EPR-WWW.EXE For Installation - Setup support, you should have received the '(W)EPRM-START diskette' if running IBM OS/2, then please use the OS2X3.EXE file (EPRSHELL.EXE) - or - otherwise if you prefer to use 16-bit MS-Windows (WIN 3.x) ..... WINX3.EXE file 32-bit MS-Windows (Win95 WinNT .. iWinX.EXE file The OS2X3.EXE, iWinX or WINx.EXE are DISKETTE-images packed with 'PKZIP', it can be unpacked on machines running DOS, OS2, Windows 3.1, Win95, and also on a machine when running WinNT ! (Because it is possible to run (W)EPRM's on a SERVER, it would'nt be funny, to have all files contained in the install/setup packages, started on the SERVER-disk. Please load the OS2X3.EXE, WINX3 or iWinX.EXE down to your WORK-station computer, and then do (a local) unpack.) The OS2X1.EXE and WINX3 or iWinX.EXE diskette contain all *.DLL, README and iVIEW or XVIEW files - needed to run EPRM under OS/2 or WEPRM under MS-Windows V-3.x, Win95 and/or WinNT) ---- I M P O R T A N T ---- During installation you will need then 30-MB of free HD-space, after installation you can delete all (W)EPRMINFx.EXE file's, and appr. 15-MB of your Hard Disk will be released. For a full installation: ø First create a Directory on your Hard-disk (e.g. for OS/2 type.. MD EPRM or for Windows type .. MD WEPRM) ø Copy all EPRMINFx.EXE or WEPRMINF.EXE files to this directory. ø Execute (run) each of this package-files just transferred. With this current version (EPRM Feb-98/V-04 and up) you should have a line (created by an OS/2 REXX-CMD or Windows Setup utility) enter'ed for start the EPRM's or WEPRM's. This will be done by the below following 'EASY' Setup/Install instructions. for OS/2 VIEW EPRM+EPRM0+EPRM1+EPRM2+EPRM3+EPRM4+EPRM5+EPRMX for Windows 3.x Xview WEPRM+WEPRM0+WEPRM1+WEPRM2+WEPRM3+WEPRM4+WEPRM5+WEPRMX or, for MS Win95 or WinNT user iVIEW WEPRM+WEPRM0+WEPRM1+WEPRM2+WEPRM3+WEPRM4+WEPRM5+WEPRMX EASY - Setup/Install: For an 'EASY' Setup/Install you can use the OS2X1 or WINX3 or iWinX - EXE-file. ø If running OS/2 (must have REXX installed !) a. you can run the EPRMINST.CMD, and the EPRM-ICON will be autom. created/updated on your OS2-DESKTOP. (simple OS/2 version) b. for OS/2 EPRSHELL installation 1. create the EPRM directory on your hard-disk (e.g. C:\>MD EPRM ) 2. copy the OS2X1.EXE to this C:\EPRM directory 3. execute C:\EPRM\OS2X1.EXE 4. copy VROBJ.DLL (just before unpacked) to your DLL-path (e.g. copy C:\EPRM\VROBJ.DLL C:\OS2\DLL ) 5. you can delete now the OS2X1.EXE and VROBJ.DLL in C:\EPRM (e.g. del C:\EPRM\OS2X1.EXE and then del C:\EPRM\VROBJ.DLL ) 6. start C:\EPRM\EPRSHELL If not all EPR*.INF members are availailable (referenced in the command line) you will encounter an ERROR-message (cannot run..) In this case start EPRMINST.CMD again. ø For Windows user (WINX3.EXE for Win3.x / iWinX.EXE for Win95 or WinNT) 1. copy WINX3.EXE or iWinX.EXE to an formatted/empty 1.44-MB diskette 2. start WINX3.EXE or iWinX on diskette (UNPACK the 16-bit or 32-bit version) 3. start A:\SETUP 4. follow the instructions shown on your display If not all WEPR*.INF members are availailable (referenced in the command line) you will encounter an ERROR-message 'The help library file WEPRM cannot be found' In this case A. for Win3.x - find which of the WEPR*.INF files you have installed (e.g. dir C:\WEPRM\*.INF |more ) - select the WEPRM folder - select 'IView-long-WEPRM' or 'IView-EPRM' - click on FILE (top/left) select PROPERTIES, and change the XVIEW EPRM+EPRMA+EPRM0... line (remove all not available WEPR* file-references) - try, to run WEPRM again B. for Win95 or WinNT - find which of the WEPR*.INF files you have installed (e.g. dir C:\WEPRM\*.INF |more ) - click on Start (open folder) - find, click on PROGRAM - find, click on WEPRM - find 'IView-long-WEPRM' or 'IView-EPRM' and (use MOUSE-button-2) click on 'IView-long-WEPRM' - or - 'IView-WEPRM' select PROPERTIES, and change the IVIEW EPRM+EPRMA+EPRM0... line (remove all not available WEPR* file-references) - try, to run WEPRM again Concept: ------------------------------------------------------------------ What type of INFORMATION, is in which EPR*.INF - file ? And now, more about the EPRM-Concept, or what's behind: You can imagine the EPRM as, if books are placed on a bookshelf. But there is one rule, neither of these books maybe more thickly, as when the text and graphic processed electronicly, fit on a standard 1.44-MB diskette. +-+ +-+ | | |E| |E| |P| Bookshelf |P| ............. |R| front - view |R| |M| |M| |X| +-+ +-+ --------------------------- The first book is the EPRM.INF and the latest (rightmost) book is the EPRMX.INF. Included the remaining EPRMx.INF books lie between these two books. +-++-++-++-++-++-++-+ | ||E||E||E||E||E||E| |E||P||P||P||P||P||P| Bookshelf |P||R||R||R||R||R||R| front - view |R||M||M||M||M||M||M| |M||0||1||2||3||4||X| +-++-++-++-++-++-++-+ --------------------------- Since some chapters (e.g. ThinkPad) exceeds the capacity of one diskette you can start work with chapter x, of chapter y, or because we are working electronically, take the first book of a chapter, and have the index of the following books inside this book and let them call (link) automatically. +-------++-------++-------+| | EPRM2 || EPR2A || EPR2B || | || || || Bookshelf | || | || | || side - view | index-----> | || | || | call--------------> | || The arrow symbol show, how +-------++----|--++----|--+| horizontal and vertical -----------------|--------|---+ LINK's (call's) are done. | | (From inside a subchapter +------------+ +---+ to a main book, or from v v an index to a subchapter) +-++-++-++-++-++-++-+ | ||E||E||E||E||E||E| |E||P||P||P||P||P||P| Bookshelf |P||R||R||R||R||R||R| front - view |R||M||M||M||M||M||M| |M||0||1||2||3||4||X| +-++-++-++-++-++-++-+ --------------------------- As you see, it should'nt be a problem to 'GO-forward', but there maybe some problems, to come back to your starting point. Whenever you have selected a book not standing in front of the bookshelf, you should press the 'F3'- button, or click on the leftmost-top switch panel, to leave (close) this book, and go back to the point where you are coming from. If you are navigating outside the MAIN-book, you will also see displayed different HEADER-lines. (Top line on display) Normally, inside the MAIN-chapter you see: - 'IBM PS/VP/PC - Electr. Pocket Reference Manual' - Outside the MAIN-chapter e.g. you will see: - 'IBM - ThinkPad - EPRM 26xx 95xx' - So whenever you are outside the MAIN-chapter, and want go back, to where you are coming from, press the 'F3'- button, or click on the leftmost-top switch panel. Inside all EPRM's you can go back to the previous chapter by pressing on the 'ESC'-button, or by a mouse double-click on the displayed 'PREVIOUS' button. --- Special EPRM need's --- Maybe, some of you will have the need, find all entries for any P/N inside the EPRM's, (e.g. when working in a stock-location). If you have such need's, please add 'ALL' available EPRM *.INF files in the EPRM-command line. Example: VIEW EPRM+EPRMA+EPRM0+EPRM1+EPRM2+EPR2A+EPR2B+EPR2C+EPR2D+EPR2E+EPRM3+EPR3A+EPRM4+EPRM5+EPRMX This will be the only way, to have direct access to all EPRM-information (Using the View 'SEARCH' option)
