Applying firmware updates to the 3502-108, 3502-314, or 3502-R14 The library’s contain a robot assembly and can have multiple drives to apply the firmware updates to. Download the Bootaspi.exe file to a temporary directory on an MS-DOS FAT partition on your hard drive. By expanding the BOOTASPI.EXE file to a diskette a DOS bootable DLT Tools image will be created. In your browser right click on the new binary firmware files and right click on your mouse to select "file save as" and download the binary firmware image files to a diskette or the temporary directory created on the MS-DOS FAT partition. Ensure that media has been unloaded from the tape drives. 1. Boot with the Bootaspi image diskette to the DLTtools disclaimer screen. 2. Press (ESC) to acknowledge terms 3. If more than one SCSI host adapter is installed in the server, press the (TAB) key and select the controller attached to the library unit. 4. After highlighting the correct SCSI controller highlight (OK) and then press the enter key. 5. The update application is not automated and each tape drive in the library will need to have the firmware update applied to it individually. Verify that you have selected the correct tape drive model by pressing the (TAB) key and using the up and down keys to highlight the drive and press enter to make the selection. 6. At the screen that states "Drive is protected! Turn off protection to perform operation" press the enter key. 7. Press (ALT (S) and choose the option Device Protection. 8. Under the section Set Global Protection, press the (TAB) key, then press the spacebar to remove the (X) option for protection mode, then press the enter key. 9. Now remove the Bootaspi diskette from the server and insert the new image file firmware diskette if applicable. 10. Select Alt F 11. Select Update 12. Select Load Firmware 13. Select the firmware image file from either the diskette which should automatically see the image from the (A) drive, or selecting the MS-DOS FAT partition drive letter: (type the filename) and pressing the enter key twice. 14. Do not power off during the update process, as unrecoverable damage will be caused to the tape unit. 15. Press the enter key when update has completed, then insert the Netfinity Server Option ASPI Bootable Diskette for DLT Tape Drives, repeat the process for all the drives in the unit. Next select the Library and using the same update process and the Library binary firmware image update the firmware on the robot assembly. After completion of this process press (ALT (X)to exit. 16. Remove the diskette and reboot the server.
