Using the diagnostics diskette ------------------------------ For systems with an IBM PCI Multiprotocol adapter installed 1. Power down and disconnect the test system from the power supply for at least 15 seconds. NOTE: Systems that utilize the Virtual Control Program Interface (VCPI) need to be powered down for a minimum of 15 seconds. 2. Insert the IBM PCI Multiprotocol advanced diagnostic diskette into the floppy disk drive of the system. 3. Restart the test system. Follow the onscreen insructions. 4. The results of the diagnostics will appear indicating whether the IBM PCI Multiprotocol adapter passed or failed the diagnostics. For testing IBM PCI Multiprotocol adapters in a test system 1. Power down and disconnect the test system from the power supply for at least 15 seconds. NOTE: Systems that utilize the Virtual Control Program Interface (VCPI) need to be powered down for a minimum of 15 seconds. 2. Install a minimum of one IBM PCI Multiprotocol adapter into a test system. NOTE: The software can detect and test a maximum of 8 installed IBM PCI Multiprotocol adapters. 3. Attach to each installed IBM PCI Multiprotocol adapter, a RTIC breakout cable wrap connector (wrap plug) Option part number 6425494. NOTE: The diagnostics will fail if a wrap plug is not used for each IBM PCI Multiprotocol adapter. 4. Insert the IBM PCI Multiprotocol advanced diagnostic diskette into the floppy disk drive of the test system. 5. Restart the test system. Follow the onscreen insructions. 6. The results of the diagnostics will appear indicating whether the IBM PCI Multiprotocol adapter passed or failed the diagnostics. Additional information ---------------------- A wrap plug can be created from a 25-pin D-shell female connector with the following pin arrangement. +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Wrap connections for the PCI MPA port | +------------------------+---------------------------------------+ | Associated pins | RS-232-D signals wrapped | +------------------------+---------------------------------------+ | 02 - 03 | TXD -> RXD | | 04 - 05 - 08 - 15 | RTS -> CTS -> DCD -> TXCLKIN | | 24 - 17 | TXCLK -> RXCLK | | 20 - 06 - 22 - 23 | DTR -> DSR -> RI -> HRS | +------------------------+---------------------------------------+ TRADEMARKS ---------- IBM is a trademark of the IBM Corporation in the United States, other countries, or both.
