What This Package Does ---------------------- This package provides the ISO format file which creates the bootable CD of 'PC-Doctor DOS' ThinkPad diagnostics. Instead of starting a computer from the conventional diskettes and performing diagnostic programs, it can be performed from a bootable CD. However, in order to create bootable CD, it is necessary to have CD-R/CD-RW writing software (with ISO format support) prepared separately. Create the bootable CD ---------------------- 1. Start Windows. 2. Extract this package onto the hard drive. 3. Start your CD-R/RW writing software's feature for creating a CD from an ISO image. Refer to the help provided with your CD-R/RW writing software for further assistance. 4. Select a CD ISO image file located in the folder you extracted the package to in step 2. The default folder is: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\PCDRDOS The file name of the ISO image is xxxxxxxx.ISO 5. Create the CD. Note: You must have access to a CD-R or CD-RW drive and CD-R/RW writing software that is capable of creating a CD from an ISO image and a blank CD-R or CD-RW media. Diagnostics Procedure --------------------- 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Make sure the CD-ROM/DVD drive which is supported as a startup device for your ThinkPad is attached to the computer. 3. Turn on the computer. 4. While either of the following messages is displayed at the lower- left area of the screen, press the F12 key. To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button or the enter key. Press F12 to choose temporary boot device - or - Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility Press F11 to invoke the IBM Product Recovery program Press F12 to choose temporary boot device The Boot Menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 5. Insert the PC-Doctor DOS CD into the CD-ROM/DVD drive. 6. Press cursor keys to select either of the following devices, and press Enter. ATAPI CDx (x: 0, 1, ...) - or - CD-ROM Drive PC-Doctor DOS will start. 7. Follow the instructions on the screen. 8. After performing the diagnostics, remove the CD from the CD-ROM/DVD drive and turn off the computer. Note: PC-Doctor DOS provides some benchmark tests, for example, a test to indicate how much battery power remains. Results of such tests might differ from the specifications provided in the user's guide and catalog. The results vary depending on the testing method and the testing environment, and IBM does not guarantee these results. How to determine what version is installed ------------------------------------------ 1. Run PC-Doctor DOS. 2. Select Quit menu by keyboard or mouse. 3. Select About. 4. Version Number is shown. Note: This version information does not show minor version. For example, the version 2.0.651a shows version 2.0.651. Known Limitations ----------------- 1. The Intel Wireless Radio test may return FAILED if the security function is enabled in the access point. 2. The Fixed Disks test may return FAILED against Disk 0 but this is not an actual device failure because the CD is used as a virtual hard drive.
