Obtain the additional package, BIOS Version 1.07 (or higher), and update the BIOS in the system with it. - If you need to update the BIOS as well as the Embedded Controller Program, update the Embedded Controller first. - This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette updates the Embedded Controller Program (H8 controller firmware) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. This release supports the following system: - ThinkPad X30 To determine if you should update the Embedded Controller Program, refer to the Summary of Changes section. To update the Embedded Controller Program, refer to the Updating Embedded Controller Program section. The Embedded Controller Program internal ID is for administrator purpose. (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00 - 1.00 (1KHT12WW)> NOTE: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.00c or higher. - (New) Support for ThinkPad X30. <1.02 - 1.02 (1KHT14WW)> NOTE: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.00c or higher. - (Fix) (Windows XP and Windows 2000) If the computer is attached to the UltraBase X3 with a battery installed and goes into standby mode, warm- undocking the system from the UltraBase X3 may be failed. - (Fix) (Windows NT 4.0 and DOS) If the computer is attached to the UltraBase X3 with a battery installed, beeps may sound continuously when the system resumes normal operation from suspend mode. - (Fix) The battery may not be charged while the computer is turned off. <1.03 - 1.03 (1KHT15WW)> NOTE: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.07 or higher. - (New) Improvement of the control function of the battery. Updating Embedded Controller Program ------------------------------------ NOTES: - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the Embedded Controller Program in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the Embedded Controller Program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. (Except the ThinkPad UltraBase X3 option. You can attach the option and use the diskette drive option in it.) - Make sure the Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette is write-protected. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the write protected Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select Update Embedded Controller Program and follow the instruction on the screen. NOTE: If you are updating the Embedded Controller Program through the external diskette drive (USB type, not the diskette drive in the ThinkPad UltraBase X3), it will take quite a long time to complete reading the Embedded Controller Program file, but it is normal. Continue the update. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- Each version of the Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette contains the following Embedded Controller Program. Also the supported BIOS versions are shown below. The version of the Embedded Controller Program can be viewed by entering the IBM BIOS Setup Utility. Turn off the computer. 2. Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive. 3. Turn on the computer. 4. While the Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 5. Check Embedded Controller Version number.
