What This Package Does ---------------------- This ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility updates the BIOS (system program) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. Note: The "Internal Network Device" and "Internal Wireless Device" options are found by clicking Config then click Network. <1.43 (1UET93WW)> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.12 (or higher). - (Fix) The 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with the old device driver (version 2.4.1.7 or lower) does not work with BIOS version 1.42 (1UET92WW). - (Fix) The computer may be immediately powered off at the password prompt screen after returning from hibernation if the Power-on Password is set and "Require password after hibernate" option in the BIOS Setup utility is set to enabled. - (Fix) The correct passphrase is not accepted at the passphrase prompt screen of the UVM (User Verification Manager) function of the Client Security Software after returning from standby mode if all of the following conditions are met: 1. "Timer Wake with Battery Operation" option in the BIOS Setup Utility is set to disabled. 2. In the Windows XP Power Options properties, both "System standby" and "System hibernates" for "Running on batteries" are set. The timer setting of "System hibernates" is longer than that of "System standby". 3. The computer is running on the battery. 4. The computer goes into standby mode by following the timer setting of the "System Standby" option, and then is in idling state longer than the time which is set in the "System hibernates" option. 5. Let the computer resume normal operation from standby mode. <1.44 (1UET94WW)> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.12 (or higher). - (Fix) The clock frequency (speed) of CPU is not set to the highest speed in battery mode even if "Intel(R) SpeedStep technology" option of "Power" of "Config" in the "BIOS Setup Utility" menu is set to Enabled and its "Mode for Battery" option is set to "Maximum Performance". <1.55 (1UETA5WW)> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.12 (or higher). - (Fix) "Access IBM" may be launched after resuming from hibernation State - (New) Support for new models based on the Intel Pentium M Processor 758. This symptom may appear on following condition: System with UltraBase X4 should be in standby mode and then attach secondary hard drive which has hard drive password. After attaching hard drive, System resumes from standby mode and password prompt appears and then enter password. LCD display may be turned off just after entering password. - (New) Support for ThinkPad X4 Dock. Note: BIOS and EasyEject Utility need to be updated before you attach the system to ThinkPad X4 Dock. EasyEject Utility needs to be 75U202WW or later. The guide is specified in the X4 Dock User's Guide (P/N 73P4525). <1.66 (1UETB6WW)> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.12 (or higher). - (Fix) Operating system may not load from a bootable USB Memory Key which is attached to the USB port in the UltraBase X4. - (Fix) "Internal Network Option ROM" setting in the BIOS Setup Utility is not configured by using a Remote CMOS Update Utility. - (Fix) After removing and replacing the backup battery, Client Security Software may not be installed or the Security Chip test performed by PC Doctor(DOS) may fail. <1.67 (1UETB7WW)> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.12 (or higher). - (New) Enhancement of security function on power-on: When hard drive password is set, regardless of other passwords settings, Wake On LAN from power off state does not work. <2.02 (1UETC7WW)> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.12 (or higher). - (New) Added new item in the BIOS Setup Utility menu to support enabling and disabling the internal Bluetooth device. Note: ThinkPad models with the Intel Pentium M Processor 778 require the Embedded Controller Program Version 1.32 (or higher). - (Fix) USB devices connected to UltraBase X4 or ThinkPad X4 Dock may not be recognized in Boot Menu by pressing F12 during POST. <2.03 (1UETC8WW)> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.12 (or higher). - (Fix) With BIOS 1UETB7WW (Version 1.67) or later, system shutdowns on Wake On LAN with a Ultrabay Slim Second hard drive adapter, even if no password is set in the second hard drive. - (Fix) POST error appears on power-on, just after power off at BIOS password prompt with a USB floppy drive or USB hard drive. <2.06 (1UETD1WW)> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.12 (or higher). - (Fix) The CardBus Controller register setting was fixed. - (Fix) The problem that happens in production line was fixed. - (Fix) Machine may hang up when boot device is changed in BIOS setup. - (Fix) Intel Pentium M Processor and Centrino logos displayed on screen during POST were updated. - (Fix) POST hang may be caused when damaged HDD is attached. - (New) Added new item "ThinkPad NumLock" in the BIOS Setup Utility menu. It's found by clicking Config then click Keyboard/Mouse. If you select "Independent", NumLock on the ThinkPad computer can be disabled independently regardless of the NumLock state of the external keyboard. If NumLock on the ThinkPad computer is enabled, NumLock on the external keyboard will also be enabled. If you select "Synchronized", NumLock on the ThinkPad computer and NumLock on the external keyboard are synchronized. Note: "ThinkPad NumLock" menu item is available only when the Embedded Controller Program (H8 controller firmware) is also updated to version 1.61 (1UHTB1WW) or later. Updating BIOS ------------- Notes: - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your computer, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Start Windows 2000/XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer. 4. Extract this package onto the hard drive. 5. Click the Start button, then click Run. 6. Specify the file name with the full path name where you extracted the package. (e.g. C:\Temp\1UUJ20US.EXE) Then click OK. Hint: For unattended update, specify the file name with options "-s -a -s". (e.g. C:\Temp\1UUJ20US.EXE -s -a -s) The BIOS is updated without any user interaction. 7. Follow the instructions on the screen. Depending on the operating system configuration, restarting operating system and rerunning this BIOS update utility may be required. In this case, the following message will appear on the screen. Example of a message) "DeviceIoControl() returns 2. Please restart your operating system and execute the BIOS or Embedded Controller update utility again." Windows will shut down automatically and ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility screen appears. 8. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 9. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 10. Select Update system program and follow the instructions on the screen. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off. Initializing BIOS ----------------- In some cases, it may be a good idea to try BIOS initialization when you have some troubles. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Press F9 key to load default configuration. 5. Select Yes. 6. Press F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 7. Select Yes. After the initialization has been completed, the system restarts automatically. Usable Area: The following memory address can be used by the memory manager such as EMM386. D4000-DBFFF But certain addresses in this area will be reserved for CardBus Controllers or others by Operating Systems. The addresses vary and depend on the design of each Operating System.
