Click Start, select Settings and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click System, select the Hardware tab, and click Device Manager. 3. Expand Network adapters. 3-1. If "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection" is there, then Right-click Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection. 3-2. Click the Driver tab. The version and date of the driver are displayed. 4. If "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection" is there, then Right-click Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. 5. Click the Driver tab. The version and date of the driver are displayed. 6. If it is 8.0.12.20000, then: 7. Click Start, Search, and All Files and Folders. 8. Click More advanced options. 9. Ensure "Search system folders" and "Search subfolders" options are checked. 10. Enter SbrngAPI.dll at the File Name field. 11. It may be located in the c:\windows\system32 folder. This location varies depending on where the Windows system was installed. 12. If it is dated 4/12/2004, then the 1VWC14WW Driver is installed. 13. If it is dated 2/9/2004, then the 1VWC11WW Driver is installed. 14. If it is 8.1.0.25, then: 15. Click Start, Search, and All Files and Folders. 16. Click More advanced options. 17. Ensure "Search system folders" and "Search subfolders" options are checked. 18. Enter SbrngAPI.dll at the File Name field. 19. It may be located in the c:\windows\system32 folder. This package supports Access Connections 3.71 or higher. 2. If you currently use IEEE 802.1x authentication on Windows XP Service Pack 1 and do not use WPA encryption, IBM recommends you uninstall Q826942 (WPA Supplicant update rollup package in Windows XP) and Q815485 (WPA Wireless Security Update in Windows XP). This does not apply if you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2. To check if Q826942 or Q815485 is installed and to uninstall it: 1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start and then click Control Panel. 3. Click Add or Remove Programs. 4. Click Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q826942 or Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q815485 if it is listed under Currently installed programs. 5. Click Remove and follow the instructions on the screen. Note: The above action will remove all the fixes within the update rollup package, Q826942. You may need to re-install the other specific hotfixes you expect for this rollup package. 3. If you use Windows 2000, please stop the Microsoft Wireless Configuration service if it is already installed. To check if the service is installed and to stop it: 1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click Administrative Tools then Services. 4. Double-click Wireless Configuration if it is listed. 5. Change Startup type to Disabled if it is not. 6. Click OK. 4. You may need to re-enter security information after updating the Wireless LAN driver. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section. - To determine if you should update the Wireless LAN driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. - The following software must be updated when you install this package. - Access Connections Version 3.71 or higher. - Hotkey Features for Windows 2000/XP Version 1.11.0402 or higher. There are following ways for installation. (A) Automatic install with Software Installer (B) Manual install (C) Unattended install (A) Automatic Install with Software Installer Use the ThinkPad Software Installer version 3.21.0601 or higher. The ThinkPad Software Installer will check both installed program in your ThinkPad and our Web site. Then download and update the program automatically if a newer version is available. Refer to the ThinkPad Software Installer package for details. (B) Manual Install Refer to the Manual Install section. (C) Unattended Install Refer to the Unattended Install section. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Known Issues and Solutions 1. Access Connections will not work if Windows XP Software Network Bridge connection is created. To recover the Access Connections function: 1-1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges. 1-2. Click Start, select Settings, click Control Panel, then click Network Connections. 1-3. Confirm that the following Device Name belongs to "Network Bridge" Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915BG Network Connection. 1-4. Right click on its "Name" (Wireless Network Connection) 1-5. Click Remove from Bridge. 1-6. Confirm that it belongs to "LAN or High-Speed Internet." 1-7. Right click on its "Name" again and click Properties. 1-8. The Wireless Network connection Properties tab will open and under the General tab, Check at "WLAN Transport" 1-9. Restart the system. 2. Installing and deleting server/client certificate may not take effect immediately. Note: If you use Access Connections, Intel PROSet/Wireless component needs to be installed as pre-selected during the above procedure. Downloading files 1. Click once on the underlined file name with the left mouse button. Once this is done, a pop-up window will appear. 2. In this pop-up window, choose (using the left mouse button) the directory you would like to download the file to and click the "Save" button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete without your assistance. 3. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. 4. After being downloaded, the file will need to be extracted. Extracting files 5. Locate the directory where the file was downloaded. 6. Locate the file that was just downloaded and double click it using the left mouse button. 7. The file will begin to extract in the directory where the downloaded file is located. Install 8. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 9. Open an Explorer and locate the directory where the files were extracted. 10. Double-click ACSETUP file. 11. Follow the instructions on the screen. 12. Restart the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNATTENDED INSTALL Note: This is for system administrators' use only. - Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and expand the files. - At the command line, execute ACSETUP.EXE with the following option. /QI /suppressreboot=TRUE (For example) C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANCX2A\ACSETUP.EXE /QI /suppressreboot=TRUE ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNINSTALL 1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start and then click Run. 3. In the run dialog window, type: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANCX2A\ACSETUP.EXE and click OK to start the installation process. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead. 4. Check Remove, then click Next, then click OK. 5.
