Installation of MPEG Playback Support OS/2 Warp 4.0 on Thinkpad 760ED Revised 12/03/96 by Jim Wilkerson This procedure is for installing the Enhanced Video features for OS/2 Warp on the IBM Thinkpad 760ED machines only. It is designed to work for OS/2 Warp 4.0 only. *** Preliminary Setup *** The Thinkpad should be placed on AC power prior to beginning the installation. Failure to do so can cause various inconsistencies in the installation which will prevent the system from functioning normally. The Thinkpad must be removed from any dock stations for installation. The Thinkpad must have functional OS/2 Multimedia, Mwave, and Trident CYBER9385/82 video support installed prior to installing the Enhanced Video support. *** Extraction of the Drivers from the Device Driver CD *** Obtain the file TPW4_G2.EXE from the OS/2 Warp Device Driver Pak CD-ROM which comes with the OS/2 Warp 4.0 package. This file can be accessed either through a WEB browser at file:///x:/html/multimef/ibmcorpo/thinkqbf/index.htm or from the x:\DRIVERS subdirectory on the CD-ROM itself (x: is the drive letter for the the CD-ROM). Place this file in a temporary directory and execute it. It will self extract itself into several files. From this group of files, locate the file 760EDMPG.ZIP. Place it in a temporary directory, and extract it using any utility that will handle the .ZIP compression format. From this set of files, locate the file TRIMPEGE.ZIP and extract it (this can be done in the same directory as was used for 760EDMPG.ZIP). *** Installation *** Using the Multimedia Application Install object from the Install/Remove folder in the System Setup folder, direct the source drive and path to the subdirectory where the MPEG drivers were extracted in the previous step. Select the Trident Video Capture and ThinkPad MPEG Features 2. Click OK and proceed with the installation. After the installation completes, shutdown and re-boot the system. Verify that the following lines were installed in CONFIG.SYS: DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\TRIDVC.SYS DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\MPEGIF2.SYS DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\IBMMPEGE.SYS where x is the drive in which OS/2 Warp is installed. Verify that the following objects were added to the Multimedia folder: Digital Video 2 Digital Video 3 Video CDI Player *** Performance Considerations *** The Thinkpad video color depth must be set to 256 colors in order for MPEG playback to function properly. Do not suspend/hibernate the Thinkpad with the MPEG player open in any manner (file list, paused, or playing). Doing so will cause the system to hang after resume.
