[Problem fixes] - After the computer is turned on, it may not be booted with the error message, "Operating System not found". - The computer may not resume normal operation from standby mode. - (On some models) Adjustment of the completion time of both booting the computer and resuming from standby mode. Determining which version is installed ------------------------------------------------------- 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 5. Turn off the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes: - This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 (or higher). Obtain the additional package, Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 (or higher), and update the Embedded Controller Program in the system with it. - If you need to update Embedded Controller Program as well as the BIOS, update BIOS first. - This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. Installation Instructions --------------------------------- Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is write-protected. - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment. 1. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 2. Insert the write protected System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 3. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 4. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 5. Select Update system program and follow the instruction on the screen. Note: If you are updating the system program through the USB external diskette drive, it will take quite a long time to complete reading the system program file, but it is normal. Continue the update. Warning: Do not turn off, suspend the computer or remove the diskette until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off. Initializing BIOS ----------------------- BIOS Initialization is a suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Press F9 key to load default configuration. 5. Select Yes. 6. Press F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 7. Select Yes. After the initialization has been completed, the system restarts automatically. No function changed. <1.02> (76ET22WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 (or higher). - (New) (Initial release) Support for ThinkPad R52 (Machine Types 1846, 1847, 1848, 1849, 1850 and 1870). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BIOS INFORMATION Memory Map Information ---------------------- Reserved Area: The following conventional memory addresses are reserved by the BIOS (system program) and others. C0000-CFFFF : Reserved for Video BIOS D0000-D3FFF : Reserved for Option ROM of Ethernet (*1) DC000-DFFFF : Reserved for USB BIOS (*2) E0000-FFFFF : Reserved for System BIOS Notes: *1: This area becomes free by disabling the Internal Network Option ROM option under Config and Network in IBM BIOS Setup Utility. This choice will disable PXE and WOL features. *2: This area becomes free by disabling the USB BIOS Support option under Config and USB in the IBM BIOS Setup Utility. This choice does not affect using USB devices in Windows operating systems. Usable Area: The following memory address can be used by the memory manager such as EMM386. D4000-DBFFF Note: Certain addresses in this area will be reserved for CardBus Controllers or others by Operating Systems.
