This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE [Important Updates] Nothing. [New functions or enhancements] - Support for ThinkPad NumLock. Refer to the description of version 1.19 in the Readme file of the BIOS of ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t. [Problem fixes] - Wireless Radio Switch will work in suspend mode. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED There are two ways for version check. (A) On Windows (B) On BIOS Setup Utility (A) On Windows 1. Start the ThinkPad Configuration program. Click Start, select All Programs (or Programs), select ThinkVantage, and then click ThinkPad Configuration. 2. Click the System Information icon. 3. Click the BIOS information tab. BIOS version and Embedded Controller version will be displayed. 4. Click OK to exit. (B) On BIOS Setup Utility 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check Embedded Controller Version and BIOS Version. 5. Turn off the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES - This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.19 or higher. Obtain the additional package, BIOS Version 1.19 or higher, and update the BIOS in the system with it. - If you need to update the BIOS as well as the Embedded Controller Program, update BIOS first. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the Embedded Controller Program. To determine if you should update the Embedded Controller Program, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the Embedded Controller Program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your computer, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the Embedded Controller Program in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. There are three ways for installation. (A) Automatic update with ThinkPad Software Installer (B) Manual update (C) Unattended update (A) Automatic Update with ThinkPad Software Installer Use the ThinkPad Software Installer version 3.01.0503 or higher. The ThinkPad Software Installer will check both installed program in your ThinkPad and our Web site. Then download and update the program automatically if a newer version is available. Refer to the ThinkPad Software Installer package for details. (B) Manual Update Refer to the Manual Update section. Note: PC-Doctor DOS version 2.0.1491 or higher supports this function. - (Fix) Wireless Radio Switch will work in suspend mode. <1.14> (77HT54WW) Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.14. - (New) Support for the 65W AC Adapter. - (Fix) A status indicator LED on UltraBay Enhanced will not be off when the computer is docked to the Docking Station and goes into hibernation mode. - (Fix) The A key does not work after pressing Fn + Pause keys. - --- Support for new Audio parts. <1.02> (77HT28WW) Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.00b to 1.05. - (Fix) Adjustment of the current to charge the over-discharged battery. <1.01> (77HT27WW) Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.00b to 1.05. - (New) (Initial release) Support for ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MANUAL UPDATE Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. 1. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 2. Logon with administrative privileges on the target computer. 3. Save the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility file (e.g. xxxxxxxx.exe) on the Windows Desktop or in the hard disk drive. 4. Double-click the saved file on the Windows Desktop, or start Explorer, open the folder where the file was saved and then double-click the saved file. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. Depending on the operating system configuration, restarting the operating system and rerunning this Embedded Controller Program update utility may be required. In this case, the following message will appear. "DeviceIoControl() returns 2 Please restart your operating system and execute the BIOS or Embedded Controller update utility again." Windows will shut down automatically and ThinkPad Embedded Controller Program Update Utility screen appears. 6. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 7. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 8. Select Update embedded controller program and follow the instructions on the screen. After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off. Finally delete the file saved in the step 3. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNATTENDED UPDATE This procedure is intended only for system administrators. At the command prompt, specify the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility file name with options -s -a -s (e.g. C:\Temp\xxxxxxxx.EXE -s -a -s) and press the Enter key to start installation process. If you have saved the file to a different location, specify the location, instead.
