Start Windows XP. 2. Click Start, select settings, the click Control Panel. 3. Click System. 4. Click the Hardware tab. 5. Click the Device Manager button. 6. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters. 7. Right-click Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet or "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet"and click Properties. 8. Click the Driver tab. 9. Click Update Driver...button. 10. Select No, not this time and click Next. 11. Select Install from a list or specific location. 12. Click Next. 13. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search: only. 14. Click Browse. 15. Locate the driver folder and click OK. The default location is C:\Drivers\Win\ETHBRDCM 16. Click Next. The driver installation starts. 17. Click Finish when the installation completes. 18. Click Close. CLEAN INSTALL: (Found New Hardware Wizard) If it is the first time to boot Windows XP / Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005, the OS detects the Ethernet Controller automatically. To install the device driver, follow the instructions below: 1. Start Windows XP / Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 It displays "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog box 2. Select Install from a list or specific location, then click Next. 3. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search. 4. Click Browse. 5. Locate the driver and click OK. The default location is C:\Drivers\Win\ETHBRDCM. 6. Click Next. The driver installation starts. 7. Click Finish when the installation completes. CLEAN INSTALL: (Ethernet Controller in Other devices) Windows XP / Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 detected the "Ethernet Controller", but was not able to find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see "Ethernet Controller" in "Other devices" in "Device Manager". To install the driver, follow the instructions below. 1. Start Windows XP. 2. Click Start and Control Panel. 3. Click System. 4. Click the Hardware tab. 5. Click the Device Manager button. 6. Right-click Ethernet Controller in Other devices and click Properties. 7. Click Reinstall Driver. 8. Select No, not this time and click Next. 9. Select Install from a list or specific location. 10. Click the Next button in the Hardware Upgrade Wizard dialog box. 11. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search: only. 12. Click Browse. 13. Locate the driver and click OK. The default location is C:\Drivers\Win\ETHBRDCM. 14. Click Next. The driver installation starts. 15. Click Finish. 16. Click Close. Click the Adapters tab. 6. Select Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet. 7. Click the Update button. 8. Type the full path name of the folder where the drivers are extracted in Insert Disk dialog box. For example, c:\Drivers\WIN\Ethernet\WinNT. 9. Click Continue. 10. Click Close. 11. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. CLEAN INSTALL: To install the driver, follow the instructions below: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0. 2. Note the full path name of the folder where the drivers are extracted before starting the installation. 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click the Network icon. The Network Configuration dialog box appears if this is the first time to configure the Network. If not, go to step 20. 5. Click Yes. 6. Select Wired to the network, and click Next. 7. Click Select from list. 8. Click Have Disk. 9. Type the full path name of the folder where the drivers are extracted in Insert Disk dialog box. For example, c:\Drivers\WIN\Ethernet\WinNT. 10. Click OK. 11. Select Gigabit Ethernet Controller, click OK. 12. Click Next. 13. Select Network Protocols and click Next. 14. Select Network Services and click Next. 15. Click Next. 16. Follow the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks by typing the full path to the folder that contains Windows NT files. It is usually c:\i386 folder or Windows NT CD-ROM's \i386 folder. 17. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. 18. Click Finish when the installation completes. 19. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. 20. Click Adapters. 21. Click Add. 22. Click Have Disk. 23. Type the full path name of the folder where the drivers are extracted in Insert Disk dialog box. For example, c:\Drivers\WIN\Ethernet\WinNT 24. Click OK. 25. Select Gigabit Ethernet Controller. 26. Click OK. 27. Click Close. 28. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. 29. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. BACS2 Installation ------------------ Note: Before upgrading Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 2 (BACS2), you have to uninstall the current BACS2 that is installed on your ThinkPad. 1. Execute setup.exe in the BACS folder. 2. Click Next. 6. Click Yes. 7. Click Next. 8. Click OK. Unattended Installation ----------------------- DOS drivers for unattended installation: For customers who need unattended installation, the following DOS driver is provided in another driver package (1YRD15WW package). The DOS driver can be used only for this purpose. Right-click My Computer and click Properties. 2. Click the Hardware tab and click Device Manager. 3. Click the + sign in front of the Network adapters category. 4. Double-click Broadcom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet or Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet 5. Click the Driver tab and the driver version is displayed. Windows NT: 1. Right-click Network Neighborhood and click Properties. 2. Click the Adapters tab. 3. Select Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet in the Network Adapters and the driver version is displayed in the Item Notes.
