This program is language independent and can be used with any language system and supports the following system: - ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t The supported operating systems are as follows: - Microsoft Windows Vista 32bit - Windows XP (Home Edition and Professional) - Windows 2000 To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Summary of Changes section. To update the BIOS, refer to the Updating BIOS section. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE [Important Updates] Nothing. [New functions or enhancements] - Support for Microsoft Windows Vista. [Problem fixes] Nothing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED There are two ways for version check. (A) On Windows (B) On BIOS Setup Utility (A) On Windows 1. Start the ThinkPad Configuration program. Click Start, select All Programs (or Programs), select ThinkVantage, and then click ThinkPad Configuration. 2. Click the System Information icon. 3. Click the BIOS information tab. BIOS version and Embedded Controller version will be displayed. 4. Click OK to exit. (B) On BIOS Setup Utility 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 5. Turn off the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES - If Windows Vista 64bit is already installed on your system, then you must use the diskette format or CD ISO of this BIOS update. - This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.16 or higher. Obtain the additional package, Embedded Controller Program Version 1.16 or higher, and update the Embedded Controller Program in the system with it. - If you need to update Embedded Controller Program as well as the BIOS, update BIOS first. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Depending on the operating system configuration, restarting the operating system and rerunning this BIOS update utility may be required. In this case, the following message will appear. "DeviceIoControl() returns 2 Please restart your operating system and execute the BIOS or Embedded Controller update utility again." - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. There are three methods for installation. (A) Automatic update with Software Installer (B) Manual update (C) Unattended update (A) Automatic Update with Software Installer Use Software Installer version 3.01.0503 or higher. Software Installer will check both the installed program in your ThinkPad and our Web site, then download and update the program automatically if a newer version is available. Refer to the Software Installer package for details. (B) Manual Update Refer to the Manual Update section. (C) Unattended Update Refer to the Unattended Update section. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- INITIALIZING BIOS BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 5. Select Yes. 6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 7. Select Yes. 8. Power off or restart the computer. Note: After initialization you may need to reapply some settings that you had changed previously. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VERSION INFORMATION The following versions of BIOS have been released to date. (Note) To resolve this problem, after updating the BIOS with this package, the following display driver must be installed, again. Video driver (Intel 900/950/910GML/915GM/940GML/945GM) Version 6.14.10.4693 or higher <1.20> (77ET60WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.16 or higher. - (Fix) Fails to boot from a USB device while the global switch being off. - (Fix) Presentation Director can not switch to an external display when a system fails to detect it. - (Fix) When the Password reset service of BIOS Setup is enabled (BIOS Setup->Security->Password->Password Reset Service) and Passphrase is disabled (BIOS Setup->Security->Password->Using Passphrase), POP(Power On Password) or HDP(Hard Disk Password) may not be unlocked with a registered password by the Password reset service. <1.19> (77ET59WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.16 or higher. - (New) Support for ThinkPad NumLock. A new ThinkPad NumLock option is added to Keyboard/Mouse of Config menu in BIOS Setup Utility. Settings [Independent] : The NumLock on the ThinkPad computer can be disabled independently regardless of the NumLock state of the external keyboard. If the NumLock on the ThinkPad computer is enabled, the NumLock on the external keyboard will also be enabled. [Synchronized] : The NumLock on both the ThinkPad computer and the external keyboard are synchronized. Note: PC-Doctor DOS version 2.0.1491 or higher supports this function. - (Fix) Intel Pentium M Processor and Centrino logos displayed on the screen after power-on are modified. - (Fix) The property of ATI display device does not display the correct memory type. - (Fix) The hard disk password of hard disk in the docking station may not reset failure count of password input. - (Fix) If the docking station has a hard disk with the hard disk password installed, the hard disk may not be recognized when the computer in suspend mode is docked to it. - (Fix) When the LCD is closed and opened, the screen resolution may be changed to 800x600 (Only the models with the Intel video chip). Note: After the BIOS update, update or re-install the video driver with the video driver (Intel 900) version 6.14.10.4466a or higher. - (Fix) If the hard drive is disconnected from the computer, the error, 0200: Failure Fixed Disk 7, is displayed, instead of booting Intel Boot Agent. <1.14> (77ET54WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.14. - (New) Support for the 65W AC Adapter. - (Fix) The computer may hang up when a boot device is changed in Startup menu of BIOS Setup Utility. - (Fix) The screen may be blank while Windows 2000 starts. - (Fix) Pressing Fn + F3 keys turns off ThinkLight keyboard light. - (Fix) The computer may hang if the hard disk drive is damaged. <1.05> (77ET42WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 or 1.02. - (---) (ThinkPad Z60m with ATI Mobility-RADEON X600 video chip) Support for a new type of video memory. <1.04> (77ET41WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 or 1.02. - (Fix) The computer may hang with blue screen when the wireless LAN is working and the computer goes into standby mode. <1.03a> (77ET40WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 or 1.02. - (Fix) The system may halt when returning from the standby mode. <1.02> (77ET38WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 or 1.02. - (Fix) The system may fail to read and write data from/to the device in the Ultrabay HDD Adapter. - (Fix) The serial number of ThinkPad Advanced Dock is not shown in the properties of the hardware profile. - (Fix) The ThinkPad logo on the screen may become small for a moment during booting time if the HV expansion option of BIOS Setup is set to off. <1.01> (77ET36WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 or 1.02. - (Fix) The system does not boot if one of some PCI Express video cards is inserted into the ThinkPad Advanced Dock. - (Fix) The PC Doctor program may halt while the Hardware Event Logs test is executed. - (Fix) The DVI connector is selectable in the Create Scheme menu of the Presentation Director for non-DVI supported models. - (Fix) The system takes long time to display an error if the hard disk drive is in certain failed states. - (Fix) If the second HDD adapter is installed in the system and the system is booted by Wake-On-LAN function, the system will be powered off. - (Fix) Some USB devices are not detected as boot device. - (Fix) A checksum error may be shown at booting time if a new USB has been attached to the system. <1.00b> (77ET35WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 or 1.02. - (New) (Initial release) Support for ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MANUAL UPDATE This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Explorer. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. Downloading files 1. Click once on the underlined file name with the left mouse button. Once this is done, a pop-up window will appear. 2. In this pop-up window, choose (using the left mouse button) the directory you would like to download the file to and click the "Save" button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete without your assistance. 3. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. Updating the BIOS 4. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 5. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 6. Open an Explorer and locate the directory where the file was saved. 7. Double-click the saved file. 8. Follow the instructions on the screen. Windows will shut down automatically and ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility screen will appears. 9. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 10. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 11. Select Update system program and follow the instructions on the screen. After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off. Finally delete the file saved in the step 2. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNATTENDED UPDATE This procedure is intended only for system administrators. - Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and extract the files. - At the command line, execute the BIOS Update Utility (xxxxxxxx.exe) with the -s -a -s options. (For example) [Path where the files were extracted]\xxxxxxxx.exe -s -a -s The BIOS is updated without any user interaction. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BIOS INFORMATION Memory Map Information ---------------------- Reserved Area: The following conventional memory addresses are reserved by BIOS and others. C0000-CFFFF : Reserved for Video BIOS D0000-D3FFF : Reserved for Option ROM of Ethernet (*1) DC000-DFFFF : Reserved for USB BIOS (*2) E0000-FFFFF : Reserved for System BIOS Notes: *1: This area becomes free by disabling the Internal Network Option ROM option under Config and Network in the BIOS Setup Utility. This choice will disable PXE and WOL features. *2: This area becomes free by disabling the USB BIOS Support option under Config and USB in the BIOS Setup Utility. This choice does not affect using USB devices in Windows operating systems. Usable Area: The following memory address can be used by the memory manager such as EMM386. D4000-DBFFF Note: Certain addresses in this area will be reserved for CardBus Controllers or others by Operating Systems.
