This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE Version 1.13 to 2.11 [Important Updates] Nothing. [New functions or enhancements] - Support for new ThinkPad Z61e/Z61m/Z61p/Z61t models in October/2006. - Support for some wide screen modes. - Enhancement of power management. - (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 model only) Support for video memory size up to 224MB. (Note) Video memory size is always shown as 224MB, however, only required size by 3D software will be actually allocated up to 224MB. [Problem fixes] - If the computer is undocked from its docking station without correct Windows "Undock Computer" procedures, USB devices may not be recognized after hot-docking. - Ethernet device appears in "Safely Remove Hardware" menu. - In the BIOS version 2.04, the screen color in the VGA mode (shown in BIOS Setup menu, for example) may not be correct. - After closing and then opening the LCD, location of icons on the Windows desktop may be changed. (Note) To resolve this problem, after updating the BIOS with this package, the following display driver must be installed, again. Video driver (Intel 900/950/910GML/915GM/940GML/945GM) Version 6.14.10.4693 or higher - If a supervisor password is installed, input of the supervisor password may be required while BIOS update to version 2.04 or 2.06. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED There are two ways for version check. (A) On Windows (B) On BIOS Setup Utility (A) On Windows 1. Start the ThinkPad Configuration program. Click Start, select All Programs (or Programs), select ThinkVantage, and then click ThinkPad Configuration. 2. Click the System Information icon. 3. Click the BIOS information tab. BIOS version and Embedded Controller version will be displayed. 4. Click OK to exit. (B) On BIOS Setup Utility 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 5. Turn off the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES Nothing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATING THE BIOS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Depending on the operating system configuration, restarting the operating system and rerunning this BIOS update utility may be required. In this case, the following message will appear. "DeviceIoControl() returns 2 Please restart your operating system and execute the BIOS or Embedded Controller update utility again." - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. There are three ways for installation. (A) Automatic update with Software Installer (B) Manual update (C) Unattended update (A) Automatic Update with Software Installer Use Software Installer version 3.01.0503 or higher. Software Installer will check both installed program in your ThinkPad and our Web site, then download and update the program automatically if a newer version is available. Refer to the Software Installer package for details. (B) Manual Update Refer to the Manual Update section. (C) Unattended Update Refer to the Unattended Update section. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- INITIALIZING BIOS BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 5. Select Yes. 6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 7. Select Yes. 8. Power off or restart the computer. Video driver Intel 900/950/910GML/915GM/940GML/945GM Version 6.14.10.4693 or higher <2.04> BIOS: 2.04 / ECP: 1.08 - (New) Support for new ThinkPad Z61e/Z61m/Z61p/Z61t models in October/2006. - (New) Support for some wide screen modes. - (New) Enhancement of power management. - (Fix) If the computer is undocked from its docking station without correct Windows "Undock Computer" procedures, USB devices may not be recognized after hot-docking. - (Fix) Ethernet device appears in "Safely Remove Hardware" menu. <1.13> BIOS: 1.13 / ECP: 1.05 - (New) Upgraded to the latest microcode for Intel Core processor. - (New) Presentation Director can switch to the unknown external display which the computer fails to detect. - (Fix) (ThinkPad Z61p only) Unable to rotate the LCD screen in 1920x1200 resolution x 32 bit color mode. - (Fix) When the Password Reset Service option is set to Enabled and Using Passphrase option is set to Disabled, the Power-On Password or Hard Disk Password may not be unlocked with a registered password by the Password reset service. - (Fix) Hard drive reset may not be issued to the secondary hard drive in the docking station when communication reset is required. - (Fix) The computer fails to boot from a USB device when the wireless LAN switch is turned off. - (Fix) The computer may hang when entering standby mode, due to USB host controller settings. - (Fix) If the computer is undocked from its docking station without correct Windows "Undock Computer" procedures, USB devices may not be recognized after hot-docking. - (Fix) An Infrared device appears in the device manager on the computer without the Infrared communication feature. - (Fix) Stops checking the battery voltage for a while after starting battery charge. - --- (Only for ThinkPad Z61m with ATI Mobility-RADEON X1300/X1400 video chip) Support for a new type of video memory. <1.10> BIOS: 1.10 / ECP: 1.04 - (New) Support for ThinkPad Z61p. - (Fix) The computer may detect Bluetooth device not existing. - (Fix) The computer may hang very intermittently when ThinkVantage Active Protection System accesses its sensor. <1.08> BIOS: 1.08 / ECP: 1.03 - (New) Support for 1280x768 resolution panel. - (Fix) Improved frame drop during DVD playback in battery mode. - (Fix) Spontaneous wrong key may be input when you press keys on the external PS/2 type keyboard. - Numeric characters (2, 4, 6 and 8) may be inserted while the cursor keys are pressed. - Shift key operation is done without pressing the shift key. - Only upper case characters are typed. - Multiple selections with the cursor keys - Numeric keypad may work as the cursor keys. <1.06> BIOS: 1.06 / ECP: 1.01 - (Fix) The function to disable Infrared Device in BIOS Setup Utility does not work correctly (BIOS). <1.05> BIOS: 1.05 / ECP: 1.01 - (New) (Initial release) Support for ThinkPad Z61e, Z61m, Z61t. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MANUAL UPDATE This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Explorer. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. Downloading files 1. Click once on the underlined file name with the left mouse button. Once this is done, a pop-up window will appear. 2. In this pop-up window, choose (using the left mouse button) the directory you would like to download the file to and click the "Save" button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete without your assistance. 3. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. Extracting files 4. Locate the directory where the file was downloaded. 5. Locate the file that was just downloaded and double click it using the left mouse button. 6. The file will begin to extract in the directory where the downloaded file is located. Updating the BIOS 7. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 8. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 9. Open an Explorer and locate the directory where the files were extracted. 10. Double-click WINTPUP file. 11. Follow the instructions on the screen. 12. Select 'Update ThinkPad BIOS' and follow the instructions on the screen. 13. After the update has been completed, the program shows a message 'Flash Update has been successfully completed...'. Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer. Finally delete the file saved in the step 2. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNATTENDED UPDATE This procedure is intended only for system administrators. - Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and extract the files. - At the command line, execute WINUPTP.EXE with the -S option. This choice will disable PXE and WOL features. *2: This area becomes free by disabling the USB BIOS Support option under Config and USB in the BIOS Setup Utility.
