IBM ThinkPad January 12, 1999 ThinkPad Modem 56K (V.90) Upgrade for Windows 95/98 Version 1.00 WW Release 1 ====================================================================== What This Program Does ----------------------- This is a 56K (V.90) upgrade program that will upgrade ThinkPad Modem for Windows 95/98 to 56K Modem (V.90). This upgrade program also includes the equivalent function to Modem Country Update Diskette Version 1.5 for ThinkPad 600 or Version 1.6 for ThinkPad 770/770ED (P/N:27L8459). The following ThinkPad models are supported. - ThinkPad 600 (with Internal Modem) - ThinkPad 770 (with Internal Modem) - ThinkPad 770ED (with Internal Modem) Released Versions ----------------- Version 1.00 WW Release 1 Summary of Changes ------------------ Where: Diskette version (for example, 1.00 means Version 1.00) (New) New function or enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00 WW> - (New) Release 1 Installation Guide ------------------ NOTE: This driver will now automatically extract to your hard drive. It will only extract under Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT. The extraction process will NOT work with any other operating system. 1. Determine whether your machine is a 600 or 770, 770ED which has an ACP modem. If not, this code is not appropriate for your machine. 2. If the code is appropriate, determine your current level of ACP modem code by running the ACP modem Quick Tests utility. To run this program, go to the Windows Start menu on the machine you wish to upgrade, click on Programs, ThinkPad Modem, Quick Tests. This will start the Quick Tests application. In the upper right corner, you see one of the following: a. Release 2.33 Build 20 b. Release 2.35 Build 27A c. Release 2.35 Build 28A d. Release 2.35 Build 35 e. Release 2.36 Build 36 3. If you determine that you have either Build 20, Build 27A, or Build 28A, then you must first update your machine to the latest level of ACP modem code. Click here to go to the most recent ACP modem x2 drivers. These drivers must be installed on your machine prior to install the V.90 upgrade. From that page, follow the instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the modem drivers. When you have determined what level of software is currently on your machine, click the [Exit] button on the Quick Tests application. 4. After you've completed step 3, or if you already have either Build 35 or Build 36 installed on your system, you are now ready to apply the V.90 upgrade code. 5. Download acpv90d.exe from the download link in the box above under "Downloadable File Details". NOTE: Users who currently have V.90 Upgrade version 1.0 installed, can also upgrade to this new V.90 World Wide Upgrade. 6. Execute the ACPV90D.EXE from the hard drive and it will start the extraction wizard. a. Click Next at the "TP 600, 770/ED -V.90 upgrade for internal ACP Modem for Windows 95/98" window. b. If you agree to all the terms stated in the license agreement for Non-Warranted Programs, click NEXT. c. Extract the files to the default destination path: C:\DRIVERS\W9X\MODEM and click on FINISHED. d. At the "specified output folder does not exist, create it" window, click YES. e. It will extract the files, then start the Installation Wizard. If you wish to continue the installation, click on YES. If you wish to install the modem at a different time, click NO. To install the modem at a later time, click on START -> RUN and type in "C:\DRIVERS\W9X\MODEM\MODEM56K.EXE" f. If you clicked YES, the installation of the V.90 drivers will continue. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click FINISHED. When the system restarts, it will redetect all the modem components. NOTE: The extraction wizard will leave both ACPV90D.EXE and MODEM56K.EXE on your system. If you need the hard disk space, you can delete either of the two files. If you delete both files, you will need to download ACPV90D.EXE to reinstall the V.90 update. NOTE: To uninstall the V.90 update, follow the instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the ACP modem drivers. NOTE: Additional parameters for running the modem update program. MODEM56K.EXE Asks user if they want to install upgrade. Asks user if they want to reboot at the end of the upgrade. MODEM56K.EXE cidautoexit Skips user prompt which asks user if they want to upgrade. Does not reboot, although a reboot will be required. This option allows a user to shutdown other apps, etc. MODEM56K.EXE cidautorestart Skips user prompt which asks user if they want to upgrade. Reboots machine when done. This option is fully automatic, but since the reboot is automatic, a user may lose data in other open applications.
