Previously, the ThinkPad s31 audio drivers were provided through two packages: - for Windows Me and Windows 2000 - for Windows XP But, from audio driver version 5.12.01.3045, they were integrated into one package for all Windows versions as follows. - for Windows Me, Windows 2000 and Windows XP What This Package Does ---------------------- This package provides the audio driver for Windows Me/2000 users. The audio driver enables or updates the audio function of the following ThinkPad computer: - ThinkPad s31 To determine if you should update the audio driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the audio driver, refer to the Installation instructions section. (Note) To solve this problem, modem driver should be also updated to version 3.1.97 or higher. Please get an additional package, "Modem Driver for Windows 2000 version 3.1.97 (or higher)", and update modem driver with it at the same time. Installation instructions ------------------------- NOTE: To determine if you should update the audio driver, refer to the Summary of Changes section. INSTALL: 1. Start Windows Me, or start Windows 2000/XP and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. Type in C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP in the Open box and click the OK button. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. UNATTENDED INSTALL: Type in C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP /S at the above step 4.r. UNINSTALL: (Windows Me/2000) 1. Start Windows Me, or start Windows 2000 and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator. 2. Click Start, click Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon. 4. Select 'SoundMAX' from the list, then click the 'Change/Remove' button. 5. Click Remove and follow the prompts on the screen. 6. Shut down and restart the computer. (Windows XP) 1. Start Windows XP and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator. 2. Click Start, click Control Panel, then click 'Add or Remove Programs'. (If you use Control Panel by Classic View,) Click Start, click Settings, then click Control Panel. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon. 3. Select 'SoundMAX' from the list, then click the 'Change and Remove' button. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the uninstallation. DETERMINING WHAT VERSION IS INSTALLED: (Windows Me) 1. Start Windows Me. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Click the Device Manager tab. 5. Double-click the Sound, video and game controller section. 6. Double-click SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. 7. Click the Driver tab. 8. Click the Driver File Details button. 9. Click C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\smwdm.sys. The version is displayed in the software version line. (Windows 2000) 1. Start Windows 2000. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Click the Hardware tab, and the Device Manager button. 5. Double-click the Sound, video and game controllers section. 6. Double-click SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Audio. The version is displayed in the file version line. (Windows XP) 1. Start Windows XP. 2. Click Start and click Control Panel. Then click 'Performance and Maintenance', and click System. (If you use Control Panel by Classic View,) Click Start, click Settings, then click Control Panel. Double-click the System icon. 3. Click the Hardware tab. 4. Click the Device Manager button. 5. Double-click the Sound, video and game controllers section. 6. Double-click SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. 7. Click the Driver tab. The version is displayed in the file version line.
