What This Package Does ----------------------- This package provides the audio driver for Windows 98/Me/2000/XP. On Windows 2000/XP system, the driver of this package is the same as that of the previous version package. If the previous version has been installed on Windows 2000/XP, the driver of this package does not need to be applied. If you have already updated the system to this version, you do not need to apply this release. <5.12.01.5261> (Windows 98 only) - (Fix) Modem may not work with a certain CDC/COMBO modem driver and Audio driver combination on Windows 98. Installation Instructions ------------------------- NOTES: 1. Verify audio driver string is correct in Device Manager. See the Determining which version is installed section for instructions. 2. If DirectX 7 or DirectX 8 is installed in windows 98SE, then choose reserve all when prompted with the choice to reserve or not reserve during the installation process. 3. The suggested procedure for Windows 98SE is to install the audio driver prior to installing DirectX 7 or 8. 4. Windows 2000/XP may not restart automatically at the end of the installation procedure and the Volume control will appear in second reboot. 5. Start Windows 98/Me/2000/XP. For Windows 2000/XP, log on with a user ID authorized as an administrator. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start and then click Run. 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and then click OK. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. NOTE: If the Found New hardware Wizard window appears, click Cancel to end the wizard. 6. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. NOTE: If the Found New hardware Wizard window appears, click Cancel to end the wizard. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- Windows 2000 1. Start Windows 2000. 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Click the Hardware tab. 5. Click the Device Manager button. 6. Double-click the Sound, video and game controllers section. 7. Select ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi). 8. Right-click ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi), and select Properties. 9. Click the Driver tab. The version number will be displayed. Windows XP 1. Start Windows XP. 2. Click Start and then click Control Panel. 3. Click the Performance and Maintenance. 4. Click the System icon. 5. Click the Hardware tab. 6. Click the Device Manager button. 7. Double-click the Sound, video and game controllers section. 8. Select ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi). 9. Right-click ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi), and select Properties. 10. Click the Driver tab. The version number will be displayed. Windows 98/Me 1. Start Windows 98/Me. 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Double click the System icon. 4. Click the Device Manager tab. 5. Double-click the Sound, video and game controllers section. 6. Select ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi) and click Properties. 7. Click the Driver tab. 8. Click the Driver File details button. 9. Highlight the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ali51wdm.sys The file has the version number embedded. NOTE: The file C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS\ali51wdm.sys may also be displayed in Driver File Details window, in some instances. The file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ali51wdm.sys should be the one highlighted when checking the version of the installed driver.
