In both cases, please confirm that the driver is correctly installed, by determining the installed driver version as described below. Clean install 1. Start Windows 98 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start and then click Run. 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. Click Finish and Reboot the system when prompt in order to complete the installation. Upgrade install NOTE: Remove any previously installed driver using the uninstall step in the next section. 1. Start Windows. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start and then click Run. 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK. 5. If the dialog box appears, select Reinstall or Update and then click Next. 6. Click Finish to reboot the system and complete the installation. Uninstall 1. Start Windows 98. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 4. Click on SoundMAX x86 VM General MIDI Server and then click Add/Remove. A dialog box will appear. 5. Click OK. 6. Click OK and reboot the system to fully uninstall the drivers. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- 1. Start Windows. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click System. 4. Click the Device Manager tab. 5. Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section. 6. Select SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio. 7. Right click SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio, and select Properties. 8. Click the Driver tab. 9. Click Driver Details. 10. Select C:\windows\system\smw95.vxd, to display the version number.
