What This package Does ----------------------- This package provides the audio driver for Windows NT 4.0 users. The audio driver enables or updates the audio function of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad X20, X21 To determine if you should update the audio driver, refer to the Summary of Changes section. To update the audio driver, refer to the Installation instructions section. Installation instructions ------------------------- NOTE: To determine if you should update the audio driver, refer to the Summary of Changes section. Installing driver for first time: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. The startup message appears and then disappears. 5. Click Next when a dialog box appears welcoming you to the installer. A dialog box appears informing you the installation is complete. 6. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, then click Finish. Your computer will restart and load the new driver. Updating a previously installed driver: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. The startup message appears and then disappears. 5. Click Next when a dialog box appears welcoming you to the installer and informing you that a driver is already installed. 6. Select Update, then click Next when a dialog box appears asking you whether you want to update or remove the existing driver. Setup marks the driver files for deletion. Then a dialog box appears informing you that the first half of the update is complete. 7. Click Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and then click Finish. 8. Click OK when a dialog box appears reminding you that Setup will automatically run again to finish the update after your computer restarts. Your computer restarts and deletes the driver files that were marked for deletion. Then Setup runs automatically to install the new driver. A dialog box appears showing the progress as Setup copies the driver files to the startup disk. Another dialog box appears informing you that the second half of the update is complete. 9. Click Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and then click Finish. Your computer will restart and load the new driver. Uninstalling: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. The startup message appears and then disappears. 5. Click Remove, then click Next when a dialog box appears asking you whether you want to update or remove the existing driver. Setup marks the driver files for deletion. Then a dialog box appears informing you that the removal is complete. 6. Click Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and then click Finish. Your computer will restart and delete the driver files that were marked for deletion. Determining which version is installed: 1. Click Start, select Find, then click Files or Folders. 2. Click the Name & Location tab. 3. Type cwrmmsys.dll in the Named: field. 4. Specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:) in the Look in: field. 5. Click the Find Now button. If the file named cwrmmsys.dll is not found, then this driver may not be correctly installed. If multiple files are found, then choose the one located under c:\winnt40\system32, where c:\winnt40 is the folder name where Windows NT is installed. 6. Right-click the file name found. 7. Click Properties. 8. Click the Version tab. 9. The driver version is shown as the last 4 digits.
