What This Package Does ---------------------- This package provides the audio driver for Windows 98 users. The audio driver enables or updates the audio function of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad i Series 1400 Type 2621-422/442/482/492/4E2 - ThinkPad i Series 1500 Type 2651 To determine if you have to update the audio driver or not, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the audio driver, please refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. This driver package newly includes the VxD driver. If the WDM driver (Ver. 5.12.01.3045) is already installed and you do not have any problem, you do not need to install this release. You don't need to install this version, if you installed previous released version 5.12.01.3045. The installer was changed and the functionality of this driver is same as previous version. <5.12.01.3045(WDM)/4.12.01.1164(VxD)> - (Fix) The Quick time player with a Macromedia application may make noise. NOTE: This problem is fixed by the VxD driver. If you have above problem, install only the VxD driver. If you do not have this problem, you do not need to install this driver release. The WDM driver is same driver as in the previous release. Installation Instructions ------------------------- WDM Driver: 1. Start Windows 98. 2. Extract the audio drivers to the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. Specify C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE and click OK. 5. Follow the setup program. 6. Select Upgrade Drivers and click Next to continue with the setup program. 7. Click Finish. 8. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. 9. If the Insert Disk message appears, insert the Windows CD-ROM and/or specify the location where the Windows image exists. 10. Follow the setup program. 11. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. VXD Driver: Clean Installation 1. Start Windows 98. 2. Extract the audio drivers to the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. Specify C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\98VxdDrv\SETUP.EXE and click OK. 5. Follow the setup program. 6. Select Upgrade Drivers and click Next to continue with the setup program. 7. Click Finish. 8. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. Update Installation 1. Start Windows 98. 2. Extract the audio drivers to the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click the System icon. 5. Click the Device Manager tab. 6. Double-click Sound, video and Game controllers to expand the heading. 7. Double-click ESS Solo-1 PCI AudioDrive. 8. Click on the Driver tab and Click Update Driver... 9. Click on Next and choose Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now.(Recommended). 10. Click Next. 11. Only select Specify a location: 12. Specify the directory C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\98VxdDrv and click Next. 13. Choose Install one of the other drivers then click View List... 14. Choose ESS SOLO-1 PCI AudioDrive and click OK. 15.
