What This Package Does ---------------------- This package provides the audio driver for Windows 95/98 users. The audio driver enables or updates the audio function of the following ThinkPad systems(s): - ThinkPad 570, 570E - ThinkPad i Series 1157* * Supports Windows 98 only. Installation instructions ------------------------- 1. Start Windows 95/98. 2. Extract the audio drivers for Windows 95/98 to the hard disk drive. 3. Click 'Start', then click 'Run'. 4. In the Run dialog window, type "C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE" to install the audio driver. Click the 'OK' button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. At the Crystal Audio Setup window, click the "Uninstall Crystal Drivers". When prompted to Shut Down or Restart your system, click the 'Restart' button. 6. When Windows restarts, it will detect new hardware and bring up the "Add New Hardware Wizard" (Windows 98) or "Update Device Driver Wizard" (Windows 95). Click the "Next" button to continue. 7. Windows 95 users can skip to step 8. At the "What do you want Windows to do?" prompt, ensure "Search for best driver for your device" is selected and click the "Next" button. 8. At the "Windows will search for new drivers" window, ensure only "Specify a location" (Windows 98) or "Other locations..." (Windows 95) is checked. In the box beneath, type in "C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\". If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. Click the "Next" button to continue. 9. Windows will then identify the device as a "Crystal SoundFusion(TM) PCI Audio Accelerator" with the location of the driver set to "CWCAUDIO.INF", click the "Next" button to continue. 10. When copying completes, click the 'Finish' button. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- 1. Click 'Start', point to 'Settings', then click 'Control Panel'. 2. Double-click the 'System' icon. 3. Click the 'Device Manager' tab. 4. Expand the 'Sound, video and game controller' section 5. Select "Crystal SoundFusion(tm) PCI Audio Accelerator" and click the 'Properties' button. 6. Click the 'Driver' Tab. 7. Click the 'Driver File Details' button. 8. Click %WINDOWS%\system\CWCMMSYS.VXD (%WINDOWS% is the name of the folder where Windows is installed). 9. File version column shows the driver version.
