WHAT THIS PACKAGES DOES ----------------------- This package provides the Modem driver. The Modem driver enables or updates the Modem function of ThinkPad AMR Modem of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad R40e(*1) NOTE: *1: Only Windows XP is supported. To determine if you should update the Modem drive, refer to the "SUMMARY OF CHANGES" section. To update the Modem driver, refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. Installation Instructions ------------------------- NOTE: - To determine if you should update the Modem drive, refer to the "SUMMARY OF CHANGES" section. - ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/(uninstall) wizard for this package. MANUAL INSTALL: For Windows XP 1. Start Windows. 2. Logon with administrative privileges. 3. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 4. Click Start, then click Run. 5. Specify C:\Drivers\SWMDMLUC\W2KXP\SETUP.EXE and click OK. 6. Follow the instructions. If you see the message Digital Signature Not Found appears, click the OK button to continue installing. 7. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. MANUAL UNINSTALL: For Windows XP 1. Start Windows. 2. Logon with administrative privileges. 3. Click Start, then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 5. Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem. 6. Click the Change/Remove button. 7. Click the Yes button in the confirmation window. 8. When asked to restart the system, click Yes button. NOTE: If you do not remove the modem hardware, then Windows will detect the modem during the next boot. UNATTENDED INSTALL: This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows. 2. Logon with administrative privileges. 3. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive. 4. Click Start, then click Run. 5. Type C:\Drivers\SWMDMLUC\W2KXP\SETUP.EXE -S, then click OK. Start Windows XP 2. Click Start, then click Search. 3. Click All files and folders. 4. In the All or part of the file name: field, type each file name. 5. In the Look in: field, select C: drive. 6. Click More Advanced Options, then select the Search subfolders option. 7. Click the Search button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the modem driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the each file. To check the driver version, For Windows XP 1. Start Windows XP 2. Click Start, then click Control Panel. 3. Click Printers and Other Hardware, then double-click the Phone and Modem Options icon. 4. Click Modems tab. 5. Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem then click the Properties button. 6. Select the Diagnostics tab and click the Query Modem button. 7. Check the Command | Response window to check the result of ATI3. The version of the driver installed is displayed. Using Modem on Hold and Fast Connect ------------------------------------ Notes: - To use these functions, you have to use a telephone line that has the Call waiting function and the Caller ID function. Each country or region sets these functions independently. You also have to connect to an ISP access point that is compatible with these function. Check with your ISP. - The Modem on Hold function has been tested and shown to work in the United States and Canada. It may not work correctly in other countries. - To use the Modem on hold and Fast Connect function, you have to run the Modem on Hold application first and enable each function using the following procedure: 1. Click Start and select Run. 2. Type C:\Program Files\Itmoh\Itmoh.exe and click OK. 3. Right-click the Modem on Hold icon in the task tray. 4. Select Modem On Hold Settings. 5. Select Enable Call Waiting. 6. Select Enable Fast Connect. - the Fast Connect function works well if you dial the same phone number from the same location. Otherwise, it may be better to disable the Fast Connect function.
