IBM ThinkPad February 2, 2000 DVD-Video Player Upgrade for Windows 2000 Version 5.00.00.26.2 =============================================================== What This Package Does ----------------------- The accompanying DVD-Video Player Upgrade package can update the DVD-Video Player feature in the ThinkPad system to function in Windows 2000. The following models are supported: - ThinkPad 390/390E/390X - ThinkPad i Series 1700 - ThinkPad i Series 1400 - ThinkPad i Series 1500 To determine whether you have to update the program, refer to "Summary of Changed and Fixed Items." To update the program, refer to the "Installation Guide." Released Version ---------------- Version 5.00.00.26.2 Windows 2000 support Summary of Change ----------------- Key: Program version (for example, 1.00 means Version 1.00) (New) New function or enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <5.00.00.26.2> - (New) Support for Windows 2000 Installation Guide ------------------ Note: - Use this driver only for the ThinkPads with Mediamatics DVDExpress installed. - This package cannot be installed without the Mediamatics DVDExpress DVD-Video player installed in the system. This package is for upgrade purpose only. Installing DVDExpress on your ThinkPad for Windows 2000 1. Verify that the DVD-ROM drive is installed in your computer. If the DVD drive is not installed, install it before continuing. 2. Start Windows 2000. 3. Exit all Windows programs before running the DVDExpress Setup program. 4. Extract the upgrade package onto the hard drive. 5. Click Start, then click Run. 6. In the Open field, type "C:\DRIVERS\W2K\DVD\SETUP.EXE" to install the DVD player. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 7. The DVDExpress Player installation program will start. Click [Next] in the Welcome screen. 8. The Software License Agreement window will open. Note: Before continuing with the installation, make certain you have read through and agree to all the terms of the license agreement. If you agree, click Yes to continue. 9. To install DVDExpress in the default folder, click [Next]. 10. The Setup program will begin copying files to your system. 11. After all files are copied to your computer, click [Finish] to automatically restart your computer for the changes to take effect. 12. When your computer restarts, the DVDExpress DVD player is installed and ready to be used for Windows 2000. For the best results while playing back DVDs under Windows 2000, the transfer mode for the DVD-ROM drive should be to be set to DMA mode. To enable DMA mode for your computer's DVD-ROM drive, following these instructions below: 1. Verify that the DVD-ROM drive is installed on your ThinkPad computer. 2. Click: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System applet. After the "System Properties" window opens, click the "Hardware" tab. 4. Click [Device Manager]. Expand the [+] next to "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers". 5. Highlight the "Secondary IDE Channel" device and double- click it to open its Properties window. 6. Click the "Advanced Settings" tab. 7. Under "Device 0", locate the "Transfer Mode:" list box; and then select the "DMA if available". 8. Click [OK]. 9. Click [Yes] to allow the operating system to automatically restart your computer. 10. When Windows restarts your computer, your DVD-ROM drive will run in DMA mode. How to check the version: 1. Run DVD Player. 2. Click on 'DVD Options' button which is at the bottom left corner of the DVD Player. 3. 'DVD Options' window appears then see 'Build version:' for the DVD player version No. Note ----- On ThinkPad 390/390E and i series model 2621, sufficient DVD playback performance may not be achieved depends on the DVD titles you play. This is current known limitation due to software DVD decorder CPU performance reason running on these models. IBM is working to correct this CPU performance issue in the future release.
