IBM ThinkPad 240X May 31, 2000 Fast Infrared Driver for Windows 98 Version 3.22R ====================================================================== Notice: ------- If you do not use IrDA 1.0 Mbps transmission under Windows 98, it is not necessary to install this package. What This Package Does ---------------------- This package provides the driver for Vishay's new E series transceivers (TFDS 6500/6501/6100/6101) to support IrDA (Infrared Data Association) infrared communication protocol for Windows 98 users. Without this package, Windows 98 supports; - IrDA-FIR (Fast IrDA 4.0 Mbps transmission) - IrDA-SIR (Serial IrDA 115 Kbps transmission) to enable point-to-point Infrared communication either with another ThinkPad computer or with a system equipped with an infrared port. However, with this package, the system can also support IrDA 1.0 Mbps transmission, as well as above. This package enables or updates the IrDA 1.0 Mbps transmission of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad 240X, 240Z To determine if you have to update the Infrared communication driver or not, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the Infrared communication driver, refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Start Windows 98. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Start the Windows Explorer. 4. Find nscirda.inf file in the \windows\inf directory and nscirda.sys in the \windows\system directory. Then delete them. 5. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 6. Double click the System icon. 7. Click the Device Manager tab. 8. Double click Infrared device, and click Infrared Communication Device. 9. Click the Remove button, and click OK. Follow the instructions, and return to the Device Manager. 10. Double click Network adapter device, and click IBM ThinkPad Fast Infrared Port. 11. Click the Remove button, and click OK. Follow the instructions, then reboot the system. 12. After restarting Windows 98, the New Hardware Found Wizard dialog window will appear. Click Next. 13. Select Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want, and click Next. 14. Click the Have Disk button. 15. In the Copy manufacturer's files from: box, type in C:\DRIVERS\W98\IR and click OK. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 16. Follow the instructions and reboot the system. 17. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 18. Double click the Network adapters icon. 19. Double click IBM ThinkPad Fast Infrared Port. 20. Click Advanced tab. 21. Select Vishay 6101E/6501E in the Value list for the Infrared Transceiver A in the Property list. Select Vishay 6101E/6501E in the Value list for the Infrared Transceiver B in the Property list, then click OK. 22. Follow the instructions and reboot the system.
