Place a blank, formatted floppy diskette in the A: drive. 2. Close all open applications 3. Click the FWHD2201.EXE link to download the file from the Web page. 4. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. 5. Run the FWHD220.EXE file you downloaded to create the first bootable diskette. 6. Follow the instructions on the screen to create the diskette. 7. When the diskette has been created, place the diskette in the ThinkPad system that has the hard disk drive to be updated. 8. Boot the system from the diskette. The firmware update utility will show all of the Hard disk drives that have been detected. They will be listed in the upper area of the Main Menu. If the drive requires an update is detected, it will be indicated with a blinking mark on the left. 9. Follow the instructions on the screen to update the firmware. 10. If an update is available for your drive, it may not be present on the FWHD220.EXE diskette. If this is the case, the diskette name that contains the firmware will be displayed. Download that diskette and go through these steps again replacing the FWSE1101 with the diskette name displayed on the screen. 11. When the installation is complete, remove the Firmware Update Utility diskette from floppy disk drive and power off your ThinkPad system. Do not restart the ThinkPad system with the ctrl-alt-del keys. NOTES: - The diskette contains several executable files other than FW.EXE. DO NOT RUN THESE PROGRAMS. Running these programs other than FW.EXE could ruin your HDD. - The update utility can not identify a hard disk drive in the docking station with the exception of the 570 UltraBase. In this case, remove the drive from the docking station and install it in a device bay of your ThinkPad system and then boot this diskette. If you encounter a problem installing the hard disk drive into your ThinkPad, please call your local Help Center. - Do not power off the ThinkPad during firmware being updated, or your hard disk drive may not be usable anymore.
