If you feel the battery life of your system is abnormally short, please try to refresh the battery using this utility diskette. The chemical reactions are degraded by long use of the battery or repeated charge and discharge activity. Turn off the system. 2. Insert the floppy disk into the drive 3. Plug in the AC adapter and Turn on the system. The system boots to DOS. 4. When the message 'Please unplug the AC Adapter !' is displayed at the bottom of screen, unplug the AC adapter from the system, 5. Keep operating the system with battery power until the system shuts down. 6. Wait for 1 hour to cool down the battery, then plug in the AC adapter and turn on the system. 7. System boots to DOS from diskette. When the message 'Pressing 'Y' starts program. Pressing 'N' exits to initial state' is displayed, press 'Y' to start program. 8. Program runs and does conditioning the battery 9. Turn off the system and keep charging the battery until the battery status lamp becomes green 10. Remove the diskette from the drive For best results, these steps should be repeated three times. Even if you press 'Y' at procedure #7, the utility program will not do anything to the battery if any of the conditions below are met. If one of the conditions are met the appropriate message is displayed. - Your system is not a ThinkPad 390 series - The battery in your system is not a Ni-MH battery - The battery is already in good condition and does not need an update Is such cases, just charge the battery until the battery status lamp becomes green.
