What This Packages Does ----------------------- This package provides the Modem driver for Windows Me users. The Modem driver enables or updates the modem function of "IBM 10/100 EtherJet Mini-PCI Adapter with 56K Modem (MiniPCI Combo)" of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad A20m, A20p(*1) - ThinkPad A21m, A21p, A21e(*1) - ThinkPad A22m, A22p, A22e(*1) - ThinkPad T20, T21(*1) - ThinkPad X20(*1) - ThinkPad TransNote (*1) - ThinkPad i Series 1800(*1) - ThinkPad i Series 1620(*1) (Notes) *1: With "IBM 10/100 EtherJet Mini-PCI Adapter with 56K Modem" option. The DOS driver is included only for unattended installation purpose. To enable the Ethernet function of the MiniPCI Combo, an another package for Ethernet driver is also required. To determine if you should update the Modem driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the Modem driver, refer to the "Installation Guide" section. Start Windows Me. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\WME\MODEM\SETUP.EXE to install the modem driver. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. Follow the instructions -> If you see the message 'Digital Signature Not Found' appears, please click 'OK' button to continue installing. Uninstall: 1. Start Windows Me 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Modem icon. NOTE: If there is no Modems icon, click view all Control Panel options link at the right side of the window. 4. Select Xircom MPCI+ Modem 56 WinGlobal and click the Remove button. Determining which version is installed If there is an alphabet letters in the version number, please check the date stamp of each file which version is installed. Start Windows Me 2. Click Start, select Find, then click Files or Folders. 3. In the Search for files or folders named: field, type the file name listed above table. 4. Check if C: is included in the Look in: field. 5. Click Search Options link and check Advanced Options check box. Then check Search Subfolders check box. 6. Click the Find Now button. Windows Me will now search your hard drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Modem driver is not installed on your system. 7. When finished searching, select the file name, scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the each file. Or 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click the Modems icon. If you do not see a Modems icon, you may have to select view all Control Panel options on the left side of the Control Panel window. 3. Click the Diagnostics tab. 4. Highlight the COM port for the Xircom MPCI+ Modem 56 WinGlobal, and choose the More Info... button. 5. Look for the ATI3 command response. Under the Response column, you will find the version of the modem that is installed.
