This feature is available with the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad A30/A30p/A31/A31p - ThinkPad R30/R31/R32/R40 - ThinkPad T30/T40/T41/T42/T43 - ThinkPad X30/X31/X32/X40 Note: For the user who uses other ThinkPad models which support Windows NT 4.0, Please use "IBM ThinkPad Shutdown Service for Windows NT 4.0" pacakge. To determine if you have to update this package or not, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. Installation Guide ------------------ ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/(uninstall) wizard for this package. The user who uses ThinkPad Software Installer, follows the instruction of ThinkPad Software Installer to install this package. If the user installs this package manually, please follows the instruction below. Please install or uninstall the "Shutdown Service" on your system after your logon with Administrator's right. If you install Windows on another drive or directory, specify your Windows installed drive and root directory. To check the date/time of these files: 1. Start Windows NT. 2. Click Start, select Find, then click Files or Folders... 3. Click the Name & Location tab. 4. In the Named: field, type the file name listed in the above table. 5. In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:). 6. Click Find Now. Windows will now search your hard drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory for the EXE file or in the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory for the SYS file. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date and time of each file. How to install Shutdown Service ------------------------------------------- 1. Extract this Package into your local hard drive. 2. Click on Start. 3. Click on Run.... 4. Specify the installation program INSTALL.EXE with full path you extracted in the step 1 and click on OK. The default path is C:\DRIVERS\WNT\SHUTDOWN. 5. Follow the instructions. How to uninstall Shutdown Service ------------------------------------------- 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, then click Add/Remove Applications. 2. Select IBM Shutdown Service for Windows NT and click Add/Remove. Unattended installation --------------------------- This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows NT4, logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. Type the following command line.
