SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio OS/2 driver version 3.1 Installation Readme This package installs an update to the IBM OS/2 Warp device driver for the SoundMax integrated digital audo system that comes preinstalled in your IBM computer. This document refers to NetVista 6568-xx, 6569-xx, 6578-xx, 6579-xx, 6648-xx, and 6649-xx systems. This update requires approximately 1.00 MB of space on a diskette (drive A). Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- 1. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive. 2. Run d70t01a.exe from the directory in which it was downloaded. The files will extract to the floppy diskette. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Insert the Analog SoundMax driver diskette into drive A (or any other diskette drive). 2. Open an IBM OS/2 full-screen or IBM OS/2 window session. 3. Run install.cmd for manual installation or cidinst.cmd for unattended installation. 4. When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from drive A, perform a shutdown, and then restart your computer. Limitations ----------- The Analog SoundMax driver comes with a WinOS/2 audio driver that supports wave playback and recording in WinOS/2 sessions. It's not possible to use the audio device in OS/2 and WinOS/2 simultaneously. MMPM/2 or WinOS/2 will report errors if you try this. Known Problems -------------- - Master volume adjustments have no effect unless an audio stream is active. (OS/2 bug) (Volume applet in Multimedia folder) Use Warpmix instead. - Warpmix does not function properly in retail OS/2 Warp 3 / Warp Connect. Install a recent fixpack (26 or higher) to get rid of this problem. - Warpmix does not start in the Japanese version of OS/2 Warp 4 (retail) After installing fixpack 5, Warpmix works again. - Not all mixer settings are restored after a reboot. MMPM/2 overrides some values automatically (master volume/wave volume) After the first system sounds, the master volume is set to it's previous value by Warpmix. - Mixer changes in i.e. the Digital Audio App don't show up in Warpmix. This is a limitation the new mixer subsystem. Close and restart Warpmix to view the new settings.
