Flash BIOS update - Flash from OS version for IBM NetVista 2251, 2271, 6058, 6059, 6568, 6569, 6578, 6648, 6649, 6830, 6831, 6840, 6841 systems PIKT30A README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on NetVista(R) model 2251-xxx, 2271-xxx, 6058-xxx, 6059-xxx, 6568-xxx, 6569-xxx, 6578-xxx, 6579-xxx, 6648-xxx, 6649-xxx, 6830-xxx, 6831-xxx, 6840-xxx, and 6841-xxx computers. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. This update will take 7MB of space on your hard disk drive (C:). Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Click Start. 2. Select Find. 3. Select Files and folders. 4. Type pi1z30usa.exe in the search box. 5. Click Find Now. This will locate the pi1z30usa.exe file you just downloaded. 6. Double-click the icon for pu1z30usa.exe. The directory should remain C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\PI1Z30US. 7. Click Next. 8. Click I Agree. 9. Click Finish. 10. Click Yes. 11. Click OK. Follow all onscreen prompts to complete installation. Testing for successful installation ----------------------------------- To verify that the BIOS update was successful, do the following: 1. Click Start. 2. Click Programs. 3. Click Access IBM. 4. Click IBM System Information. If IBM System Information is not installed on your system, install it using your Software Selections CD. 5. Verify that the BIOS version is IBM BIOS ver PIKT30.0. Flash Changes ------------- PIJTxxA is the flash diskette level. PIKTxxA is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward.
