Flash BIOS update - PUJT09A for IBM(R) NetVista(R) 6266, 6270, and 6276 computers README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on NetVista(R) model 6266-xxx, 6270-xxx, and 6276-xxx computers. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- 1. Click Start -> Find -> Files and Folders. 2. Type pu1z09usa.exe in the search box, Click Find Now. This will locate the pu1z09usa.exe file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the icon for pu1z09usa.exe. 4. Click Next. Read the license agreement 5. Click I Agree. The installation folder should be C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\PU1Z09US. 6. Click Finish. You will be prompted with a message stating "The specified output folder does not exist. Create it?" 7. Click Yes. You will be prompted with a message stating "The package has been delivered successfully." 8. Click OK. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Click Start -> Run. 3. Type C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\PU1Z09US\SETUP.EXE, then click OK. The destination directory should be C:\FlashOS\. 4. Click Next. You will be prompted with a message stating "Setup has finished copying files to your computer. Before you can use the program, you must restart Windows or your computer. Choose one of the following options and click OK to finish Setup." 5. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now. 6. Click OK. Wait for Windows to restart. 7. Click Start -> Run. 8. Type C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\PU1Z09US\QUICKFLASH.EXE. 9. Click OK. 10. Select Client Mode. 11. Click Flash System. Wait until you see a message stating "BIOS Flash Update Successful! You must reboot your system for the changes to take effect." 12. Click OK. 13. Click File -> Exit. 14. Shutdown and restart your system for the changes to take effect. Testing for successful installation ----------------------------------- 1. Click Start. 2. Click Programs. 3. Click Access IBM. 4. Click IBM System Information. If IBM System Information is not installed on your system, install it using your Software Selections CD. 5. Verify that the BIOS version is IBM BIOS ver PUKT09.0. Flash Changes ------------- General Information: Models 6266, 6270, and 6276 BIOS are year 2000 ready. PUJTxxA is the flash diskette level. PUKTxxA is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward.
