Flash BIOS update - Flash from Operating System version for IBM(R) NetVista(R) 6832 and 6833 systems P9JT26A README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on IBM NetVista(R) model 6832 and 6833 computers. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- 1. Click Start, select Search, then click Files and Folders. 2. Type p91z26usa.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the p91z26usa.exe file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the p91z26usa.exe icon. 4. Click Next. 5. Read the license agreement. 6. Click I Agree. The installation folder should be C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\P91Z26US. 7. Click Finish. You will be prompted with a message stating "The specified output folder does not exist. Create it?" 8. Click Yes. You will be prompted with a message stating "The package has been delivered successfully." 9. Click OK. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. Type C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\P91Z26US\WINPHLASH.EXE, then click OK. 4. A Phoneix Winphlash window appears.Click Flash BIOS. A message window appears,"Before continuing, save your work and close all other applications." 5. Click OK. The installation process begins. 6. A message will appear, "System BIOS flash was updated successfully." The system will automatically restart so the changes will take effect. Testing for successful installation ----------------------------------- 1. Click Start, highlight Programs, highlight Access IBM, then click IBM System Information. If IBM System Information is not installed on your system, install it using your Software Selections CD. 2. Verify that the BIOS version is IBM BIOS ver P9KT26.0. Flash Changes ------------- P9JT26A is the flash diskette level. P9KT26A is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward. P9KT25A/P9JT25A - Fix potential NT4 reboot/hang problem. The SMI MTRR fix which on previous bioses allowed NT4 (no Service Pack) to install without losing the floppy drive introduced problem. Installing NT4 from diskette with >128MB will now require running a utility.
