IBM Rapid Restore PC software for Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP Version 2.6 (build 6246) Installation README This package will install the full version of the IBM Rapid Restore PC software on your IBM(R) computer. This update requires approximately 64MB of space on your hard disk (drive C), this does not include the space required for your backup partition. IBM Rapid Restore PC protects against unexpected computer disasters such as image corruption and data loss. Rapid Restore PC provides a localized recovery solution that can quickly recover a system. Recovery is accomplished by pressing the F11 key and selecting one of the backups displayed on the list. During the initial setup of a computer, Rapid Restore PC creates an IBM Service Partition on the hard disk drive that is inaccessible by any other application or the end user. The IBM Service Partition size is set by the user during the installation process. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Issues corrected with this release ---------------------------------- - If an IBM Service Partition is not found, this version will not request the MS-DOS Emergency Repair Diskette. IBM PC-DOS bootable environment is provided for the use of IBM Rapid Restore PC. - The base image will not be updated after an Operating System service pack or Security Update is applied. - This release ensures that all user settings are captured in the incremental backup. CD-R archive ------------- - CD-RW media are not supported for archival of data. You must use CD-R media for this function. - When restoring from CD-R, you must select a backup from the F11 recovery screen to restore your data. The default setting, "Continue normal boot", will be highlighted. Scroll down to select the appropriate backup. Windows 2000 User mode ---------------------- - If the System Administrator has set up multiple users and those users encrypt data files, the user will not be able to access these files after a restore. The Administrator will need to decrypt the files and return them to the user. Additional information may be found via "Hints and Tips" on the IBM PC support Web page at http://www.ibm.com/pc/support.
