V5.0 Boot ROM Flash Disk with PXE 2.0 Build 78 for IBM 10/100 Ethernet Server and Desktop Adapters Family ============================================================= CONTENTS -------- 1.0 Overview 1.1 Limitations 2.0 Change History 3.0 Build and Installation Instructions 4.0 Configuration Information 4.1 Driver Parameters 4.2 Additional Configuration Information 5.0 Web Sites and Support Phone Number 6.0 Trademarks and Notices 7.0 License and Disclaimer 1.0 Overview _____________ This package includes the Intel Boot Agent v3.0.03 code with PXE 2.0 Build 78 & RPL v2.73 - along with the v3.47 Futil.exe utility - for the Boot option with IBM Intel-based 10/100 NICs. When boot up the system with this disk, it will automatically detect your IBM adapter and flash it to this latest Boot code. With futil.exe v3.47, you can also erase ( blank out ) the boot code in the boot ROM if needed. This boot code supports all IBM Intel-based 10/100 Server and Desktop adapters that have eprom module size equal to or larger than 512K. 1.1 Limitations ----------------- The eprom ( boot ROM ) module is equal to or larger than 512K. 2.0 Change History ____________________ This new v5.0 sw release replaces the previous v4.0 or older sw releases. v5.0 futil.exe version 3.47 pxe_m.nic version 2.0 Build 78 v4.0 futil.exe version 3.26 pxe_m.nic version 2.0 Build 78 v3.72 futil.exe version 3.20 ivy_m.nic version 2.0 Build 72 In futil.exe v3.47, the adapter IDs for the latest IBM 82550-based NICs are added for identifications, along with update for the latest EPROM modules. 3.0 Build and Installation Instructions _________________________________________ To update the flash boot rom on your IBM adapter: 1. Have the adapter firmly seated in a PCI slot in the system 2. Boot up the system with this flash boot disk 3. You should see the message: Futil ver 3.47 Intel(R) PCI NIC Flash Update Utility ... and the boot rom in the adapter will be reflashed. 4. A successful message then should appear 5. You can now shutdown then reboot the system Read the flash.txt and futil.txt for further details. NOTE: Most Server adapters come with Boot ROM disabled because of the fact that each server can have multiple server adapters installed. And thus having all server adapters come with Boot ROM enabled can cause potential contention issues and confusion to users on which one to do remote boot if that is needed. So, if remote boot is needed for your server, you can enable one of the adapters for remote boot. Only one NIC can do remote boot for each server - if that server has multiple NICs. To enable an adapter for remote boot, use the brow.exe program provided with this disk. Read the brow.txt for further details. 4.0 Configuration Information _______________________________ Refer to 3.0 above. 4.1 Driver Parameters --------------------- Refer to 3.0 above. 4.2 Additional Configuration Information ---------------------------------------- Refer to 3.0 above. 5.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number ________________________________________ IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/support IBM Marketing Netfinity Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/netfinity ( or eServer xSeries ) Intel Linux Support Web Site: http://support.intel.com/support/network/adapter/pro100/index.htm If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.ibm.com/pc/qtechinfo/YAST-3P2QLY.html. 6.0 Trademarks and Notices ____________________________ The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM Netfinity eServer xSeries Intel is a registered trademark of Intel Corporation.
