Atapi.sys - Note: this will work only with a system that is installed on a FAT partition. Note: =the directory where windows NT is installed. 1. Boot off a DOS boot disk, so that none of the NT files are in use. 2. Got to the \\system32\drivers directory and rename Atapi.sys to atapi.old 3. Copy the Atapi.sys into the \\system32\drivers directory. 4. Boot Windows NT normally. Piixide.sys - There are 2 ways of installing this driver since there is a Busmatering Driver Disk for most of IBM Machines. a) The first method is exactly like the Atapi.sys instructions above. b) The second method is: 1. Make the Busmasting Disk for your Specific Machine/Controller. 2. Rename the Piixide.sys file on the disk to Piixide.old 3. Copy the New Piixide.sys to the diskette and follow the normal install instructions, which are: a. Open Control Panel in Windows NT. b. Open the SCSI adapters applet c. Click on the drivers Tab. d. Click on ADD e. Choose Have Disk and set it to look at the A: drive. f. Choose to install the Intel Busmasting Driver and Press OK. Now both the Busmastering Driver and ATAPI are listed. g. Check devices in control panel and make sure that ATAPI is set to Disabled and PIIXIDE is set to Boot. h. Reboot the machine.
