Netfinity Fibre Channel Raid Controllers, FAStT 200's, FAStT500's and FAStT700's with specific SCSI and Fibre hard disk drive options installed may be affected. The new code level for the EXP500 ESM will be 9163. The specific drive options are listed below: The Following IBM Hard Disk Drive options may contain drives that will be updated: ST318304F B337 ST336704F B337 ST173404F B337 ST318451F B933 1.2 Limitations The update program will only update the ESM or drive firmware. The update supports Hard Disk Drive options installed in EXP10, EXP15, EXP200, EXP500 and FAStT200 storage enclosures controlled by any IBM Fibre Channel Raid Storage Subsystems or IBM FAStT Family of Storage Subsystems. The minimum controller firmware levels for this update are: 7.10/04.01 Client Software/Firmware: Model Type Appware/Bootware NVSRAM 3526-1RU 04.01.02.30/04.01.02.03 NV3526R710NT005 3526-1RX 04.01.02.30/04.01.02.03 NV3526R710NT005 3552-1RU 04.01.02.30/04.01.02.03 NV3552R710NT008 3552-1RX 04.01.02.30/04.01.02.03 NV3552R710NT008 3542-1RU 04.01.02.30 NV3542R710NT011 3542-1RX 04.01.02.30 NV3542R710NT011 3542-2RU 04.01.02.30 NV3542R710NT012 3542-2RX 04.01.02.30 NV3542R710NT012 8.20/05.20 Client Software/Firmware: Model Type Appware/Bootware NVSRAM 3552-1RU 05.20.02.00/05.00.01.00 CNV3552R820NT005 3552-1RX 05.20.02.00/05.00.01.00 CNV3552R820NT005 1742-1RU 05.20.02.00/05.00.01.00 CNV1742R820NT005 1742-1RX 05.20.02.00/05.00.01.00 CNV1742R820NT005 3542-1RU 05.20.02.00 CNV3542R820NT013 3542-1RX 05.20.02.00 CNV3542R820NT013 3542-2RU 05.20.02.00 CNV3542R820NT014 3542-2RX 05.20.02.00 CNV3542R820NT014 1.3 Enhancements This release includes new microcode that updates drives. The new microcode includes logic changes to prevent conditons that may result in premature drive failures or in a possible error that could overwrite sectors of data. This error could result in incorrect or lost data and could go undetected by the system user. While the conditions required to cause the situation are highly unlikely, we nonetheless highly recommend that you install the new microcode at your earliest convenience to avoid these potential error situations. 1.4 Level of Recommendation IBM considers this update to be highly recommended for all customers with drives listed. 1.5 Dependencies Before running the IBM Fibre Hard Disk Drive and EXP500 ESM Update Program, first update IBM Fibre Channel family or FAStT storage subsystem NVSRAM/Firmware to the latest level. Next make sure that all activity to the controller is stopped. Note: This application only runs on Windows NT 4.0 SP6A and Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (or higher) operating systems. It can connect to the FAStT family of controllers through the network to a fibre attached controller running a Host Agent (in band) or directly through an ethernet network (out of band) in the same manner as the FAStT Storage Manager Client. ___________________ 2.0 Change History ___________________ 2.1 IBM Fibre Hard Disk Drive Update Program Version 1.00 Initial Release 2.2 IBM Fibre Hard Disk Drive Update Program Version 1.00 to Version 1.01 Updated firmware for drives with product ID strings of DDYS and DPSS to S9HA 2.3 IBM Fibre Hard Disk Drive and EXP500 ESM Update Program Version 1.01 to 1.10 Added update of EXP500 ESM Firmware from 9150 to 9163 to prevent false fan alerts and correct diagnostic lights 2.3 IBM Fibre Hard Disk and EXP500 ESM Update Program Version 1.10 to 1.20 Updated firmware for drives with product ID strings of ST318304F, ST336704F and ST173404F to B337, ST318451F to B933 as well as disable write cache on all drives ___________________________ 3.0 Installation and Setup ___________________________ 3.1 Installing the IBM FAStT Fibre Channel Storage Manager 8.20 Field Tool a.
