INSTALLING THE ATI DISPLAY DRIVER __________________________________________________________ Refer to your Installation and Setup User's Guide for instructions on installing the ATI display driver in your system. Before installing the ATI video driver close all open applications and disable any anti-virus software that is running on your computer until the ATI driver installation is complete. To install the ATI video driver: 1. Run the file 'Setup.EXE' on the CD-ROM or from your local hard drive. 2. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. 3. Restart the computer when instructed to do so to complete the driver installation. __________________________________________________________ 2. SILENT INSTALL/UNINSTALL __________________________________________________________ 1. Setup /K or Setup -k Please note: Dialogs will come up but no user intervention is required. 2. There is no silent uninstall for video drivers. __________________________________________________________ 3. SETTING THE MONITOR SELECTION __________________________________________________________ This section is a brief overview of changing your monitor settings. For detailed information on settings, see the ATI Desktop Help. To Change Monitor Settings: 1. Start Windows. 2. Click the ATI icon in the Windows taskbar, point to 'Settings', then click 'Display Settings'. Alternatively, right-click the desktop background, then click 'Properties'. 3. Click the 'Settings' tab. 4. DDC (Display Data Channels) monitors are designed to send optimal refresh rate and sizing/positioning information to the graphics card. Do not attempt to adjust the refresh rate when a DDC monitor is attached. __________________________________________________________ 4. CHANGING THE VIDEO SETTINGS USING DISPLAY PROPERTIES __________________________________________________________ 1. Right click the mouse anywhere on the Windows desktop and select 'Properties'. 2. Click on the 'Settings' tab. 3. Select the desired Resolution ('Screen Area') and Color Depth ('Colors') . 4. Click on 'Apply' and then 'OK'. 5. Restart your computer if necessary. __________________________________________________________ 5. REMOVING THE DISPLAY DRIVER __________________________________________________________ Close all open applications and disable any anti-virus software that may be running. 1. Click on the 'Start' button 2. Click on 'Settings' then click 'Control Panel' 4. Click 'Add/Remove Programs' to open it. 5. Highlight the 'ATI Display Driver' and click the Remove button. 6. Click 'OK' and 'Yes' to Restart your computer. Once the computer has finished rebooting Windows will install a Standard VGA display driver and the ATI video drivers will have been removed. __________________________________________________________ 6. NOTES, PROBLEMS, AND LIMITATIONS __________________________________________________________ Service pack 3 or higher is required for AGP support under Windows NT 4.0 __________________________________________________________ 7. SUPPORTED RESOLUTIONS, COLOR DEPTHS, AND REFRESH RATES __________________________________________________________ Resolution and Refresh Rates supported by the ATI video driver are dependent on the installed monitor. The maximum supported Resolutions and the Vertical Refresh Rate for the monitor can be seen in the 'Display Properties'. Right click the mouse on the anywhere on the Windows desktop and select 'Properties'. Click on the 'Settings' tab to determine available Resolutions under 'Screen Area'. For all supported Resolutions and Refresh Rates see your Monitor's manual. There are a number of factors that impact the maximum Color Depth and Resolution. These include amount of memory on the video adapter, enabled 3D features, and selected Resolution. Enabled 3D features uses more video memory which may reduce available Resolutions and Color Depths.
