********************************************************************* * ServeRAID Manager * * Version 3.61 * ********************************************************************* Refer to the readme.txt for your specific operating system for detailed information on: o Installation Instructions o Starting the ServeRAID Manager o Revision History Minimum System Requirements: Intel Compatible 200 MHz Processor 64 MB RAM 20 MB Hard Disk Drive Space CONTENTS ________ 1.0 ServeRAID Manager LOG Files 2.0 Additional Installation Information 3.0 Known Issues 3.1 SCO UnixWare 3.2 IBM OS/2 3.3 ServeRAID Manager running as a plug-in 4.0 Trademarks and Notices 1.0 ServeRAID Manager LOG Files ________________________________ There are four log files generated from the ServeRAID Manager. o RaidEvt.LOG - This contains the information reported in the ServeRAID Manager's event viewer. o RaidNot.LOG - This contains the information reported in the Notification Manager's event viewer. o RaidSec.LOG - This contains the information reported in the Security Manager's event viewer. o RaidErr.LOG - This contains Java messages generated by the ServeRAID Manager. All of the log files are created in the directory that the ServeRAID Manager starts in. If the ServeRAID Manager was installed using the default directory, these files reside in: o C:\Program Files\RaidMan if using Microsoft Windows o /opt/Netfinity/RaidMan if using SCO UnixWare o C:\RaidMan if using IBM OS/2 o SYS:\RaidMan if using Novell NetWare Information written to these files is appended to the existing files so that a history is maintained. However, if any of the files reach a size of 200,000 bytes, the file is copied to a new file with .OLD as the extension and the original (that is, the LOG file) is deleted and recreated. If a .OLD file already exists, the existing .OLD file is destroyed. 2.0 Additional Installation Information ________________________________________ o To install the ServeRAID Manager on multiple systems within your network, you can replicate the Main Tree, Notification List, and the Security List by doing the following: 1. Install the ServeRAID Manager on one system. 2. Start the ServeRAID Manager and define the systems for your Main Tree by using the 'Add remote system' action. 3. Open the Notification Manager and define the Notification List using the 'Add system' action. 4. Open the Security Manager and define the Security List using the 'Add user' action. 5. Close the ServeRAID Manager. 6. Copy the following files onto a diskette from the directory where the ServeRAID Manager is installed: RaidMSys.ser RaidNLst.ser RaidSLst.ser 7. Install the ServeRAID Manager on other systems. 8. Copy the files from the diskette into the directory where the ServeRAID Manager is installed on the other systems. o The ServeRAID Manager can monitor status information returned from certain enclosures. Information such as fan status, power supply status, and temperature status is collected and reported in the Event Viewer if there are any problems. To monitor an enclosure, do the following: 1. Write down the description displayed in the 'Product or Model Number' field of the enclosure device information panel. 2. Exit the ServeRAID Manager. 3. Open the RaidDev.pps file with a text editor. This file resides in the directory where the ServeRAID Manager is installed. 4. Add a line to the file using the description from step 1. For example, if your description is 3520EX10, add the following: 3520EX10=true 5. Save and close the file. 6. Restart the ServeRAID Manager. 3.0 Known Issues _________________ 3.1 SCO UnixWare ----------------- o The Back button in the online help does not always work. There is an intermittent problem when using the Back button in the online help. In certain cases, you will need to press the Back button two times to return to the previous page. o SCO UnixWare 7.01 shows the time in the event viewer as PST. o Images (such as .gif) may not display when using the DISPLAY environment variable to display the application on a remote X platform. 3.2 IBM OS/2 ------------- o Double-clicking may cause the ServeRAID Manager to freeze and stop responding to mouse input. To unlock the ServeRAID Manager, press the Control and Escape keys simultaneously to open the OS/2 Window List. Using the mouse or arrow keys, select one of the ServeRAID Manager windows in the Window List and press the Enter key. 3.3 ServeRAID Manager running as a plug-in ------------------------------------------- o If the system you are trying to manage appears as a '?' icon in the ServeRAID Manager's main tree, the system may not have any ServeRAID controllers installed. Check the system's configuration and restart the plug-in. 4.0 Trademarks and Notices __________________________ The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM OS/2 ServeRAID Microsoft, Windows, and Windows NT are trademarks or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
