File Name: README.TXT IBM Software Delivery Assistant (SDA) Readme.txt for version 1.2 CONTENTS --------- 1.0 Overview 2.0 Change History 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions 4.0 Web Site 5.0 Trademarks and Notices 6.0 Disclaimer 1.0 Overview: SDA has been enhanced to include many useful features. 1.1 New features 1.1.1 Extend image options This feature extends the options that an administrator has when designating what happens with the SDA image after the required application are installed. The following new options exist: 1. Leave only required and optional applications in either the Common group or the user's selected business group. This enables users to either reinstall one of their required applications (in case the installation ever becomes damaged) or install optional or recommended applications. 2. Leave only optional applications included in either the Common group or the user's selected business group. This enables users to install optional or recommended applications. 3. Delete the entire SDA image and direct SDA-Installer to another SDA image to allow users to install applications from, which can be on the user's hard disk or on a network drive. 4. Delete the entire SDA image, including SDA-Installer, from the users hard disk. 1.1.2 Allow multiple applications to be edited at once This feature allows an administrator to propagate an application property change to many applications. For example, you may want to change the location of the install source files for an application, which appears in multiple groups, multiple languages, and is supported for multiple operating systems. 1.1.3 Application versioning across multiple SDA images This feature allows an administrator to provide updated versions of applications on a file server. When a system is deployed and SDA-Installer is installing the user's application set, SDA-Installer will look for a more recent versions of each of the applications on one other SDA images (usually on a remote file server) before installing each application. If a more recent version of an application is located, that version will be installed instead of the version found in the SDA image on the user's hard disk. 1.1.4 Report generation This feature will allow an administrator to generate a printable, formatted report containing a list of the application set(s) within a workspace. 1.1.5 Group level password protection This feature allows an administrator to optionally assign a password to each group. When a system is deployed, the end-user is required to enter the password for each group that was selected before the group's application set is installed. This provides further protection against installing software that is not authorized for a user in a specific group. 1.1.6 Sub-group support This feature allows an administrator to create application sub-groups within a group. This eases the complexity of managing large numbers of groups by allowing a hierarchy of groups to be created. For example, a customer may have different divisions within their enterprise. Within each division, there may be unique business groups that require a unique application set. SDA will allow administrators to create a group for each division, then sub-groups for each division, which corresponds to the division's business groups. 1.1.7 Pre/Post install user exits This feature allows an administrator to specify a program of their choice to execute before and/or after an install program as part of the application installation process. The pre-install user exit will complete before the main install program executes. The post-install user exit will execute immediately after the completion of the main install program. 1.2 Limitations - To be consistent with other IBM systems management tools, only the following languages are supported with SDA: Simplified Chinese French German Italian Japanese Korean Spanish English 1.3 Enhancements None. 1.4 Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the Update: - This is a refresh product. If you are using a previous version, uninstall it prior to installing this version. If you choose to leave the previous version installed, both versions can coexist on a system at the same time. - Any workspaces that were created with previous versions of SDA will work with this version. 1.5 Dependencies: None. 2.0 Change History -------------------- 2.1 All changes for this release are due to new features.
