It consists of the following files: disk1.tag - Verification file on the disk, setup checks for this file to ensure that the user inserted the correct disk. halx44n.dll - Actual HAL binary readme.txt - This text file txtsetup.oem - For a user to install custom HAL during text-mode setup, distribution disk must include this file which directs installation of HAL halx44n.inf - used for upgrades halx44n.cat - digital signature file 2.0 Change History ---------------------------- 1.41 - Fix of intermittent hang at reboot during install 1.40 - x445 support added, 32-way support, rename to HALX44n 1.32 - Initial Official Release: NumProc Fix, KeStallExecutionProcessor, HalQueryPerformanceCounter optimizations 1.10 - First Release 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions ----------------------------------------------- 3.1 Installing Custom HAL during clean install of system - Note: Please read instructions below prior to performing these steps. a) Power on machine and insert a bootable Windows Server 2003 CD b) When the message "Press any key to boot from CD" appears, press a key (I.E. Space bar) to boot from the Windows Server 2003 CD c) As the message "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration" appears, immediately press the 'F5' key Note: You may need to press the F6 key for SCSI driver installation just after pressing the F5 key d) When prompted to select the "Computer Type", select 'Other' and press 'Enter' e) Insert the floppy disk containing the custom HAL ("IBM eServer xSeries 440\445 Windows Server 2003 HAL Support Diskette"), into the floppy drive (A:), and press 'Enter' f) Select "IBM eServer xSeries 440\445 (Windows Server 2003 HAL)" and press 'Enter' g) Setup will now automatically load the HAL from floppy and continue the installation process. 3.2 Upgrading from Windows 2000 a) Insert Windows Server 2003 CD and follow upgrade directions b) Following the copying of the installation files from CD, the system will restart. c) After the system restart Windows Server 2003 Setup will continue. d) As the message "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration" appears, immediately press the 'F5' key Note: You may need to press the F6 key for SCSI driver installation just after pressing the F5 key e) When prompted to select the "Computer Type", select 'Other' and press 'Enter' f) Insert the floppy disk containing the custom HAL ("IBM eServer xSeries 440\445 Windows Server 2003 HAL Support Diskette"), into the floppy drive (A:), and press 'Enter' g) Select "IBM eServer xSeries 440\445 (Windows Server 2003 HAL)" and press 'Enter' h) Setup will now automatically load the HAL from floppy and continue the installation process. 3.3 Unattended installation. Use the following command to launch the unattended install: winnt.exe /u[:answerfile] /s[:sourcefolder] The answerfile provides answers to the prompts that the end user would normally respond to during setup. The sourcefolder specifies the full path location of the Windows files to be installed. Create a $OEM$\TEXTMODE directory under the i386 directory of the sourcefolder. Copy the following files to this directory from the HAL installation diskette: halx440n.dll halx44n.inf halx44n.cat txtsetup.oem Add the following lines to the answerfile.
