Also the drive also has a problem recognizing a CD with a capacity of less than 1 minute (~9MB) that only occurs following a delay of a few minutes that will put the drive into standby mode. Right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the Device Manager tab. Click the + sign to the left of the words "CD-ROM drives". If you see "GCR-8482B", proceed to the "Downloading the update" section below. 3.2 Downloading the update. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. 3.3 Extracting the update on a Windows computer. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and folders. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive. Double-click the jv3i103a.exe icon. Follow the onscreen prompts to extract the necessary files to the diskette. The floppy diskette will be reformatted and all prior data on the diskette will be erased. 3.4 Installing the update. Close all open applications. Leave the diskette in the A: drive, and shut down and restart the computer to start the firmware flash program. The firmware update will automatically start and search the CD-ROM drives to see if they need to be updated. DO NOT DISTURB YOUR MACHINE DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS. You will know that the update process has completed when the screen either "NO UPDATE NEEDED" or "UPDATE PASSED" appears onscreen.
